Importance of pasture w**d management.
This is Sukari, our top performing Akaushi bull.
Aproximatly 6 weeks ago I went to check up on the cattle at the other farm where Sukari is also staying, I noticed him being a bit slow and arching his back a little, I knew something was wrong but I didn't know what it was so I gave him some vitamins and let him get some rest.
2 weeks later he had regained his energy, however he had lost condition and was peeling aggressively.
That's when I realised he was going through Photosensitization, I did some more digging and found that this farm has previously had a problem with St Johns Wort which is known to cause this.
It's our first year at this farm and the w**d was yet to flower so we had no idea it was there.
This was a good lesson for us to show that just because something is not visible, doesn't mean it's not there and to be cautious of new pastures.
Luckily Sukari has completely bounced back and doing well.
