I have been attending the Dahlia Design Summit this week (virtual). An online conference bringing together dahlia growers from all over the world. I was very inspired by a presentation from Kristine Albrecht of Santa Cruz Dahlias who was so generous with her time. No Dahlias in Australia at the moment, although we are experiencing the tuber hunger games. So these are ranunculus I have grown from seed. I have tried to think about the placement of foliage and branching to create the mechanics for the work. I have used bridging flowers and there are some grasses to create movement and airiness. I have placed some blossom to create some drama although the petals will drop within a day. I have really enjoyed pushing myself with design this week. Most importantly I have valued the sense of community the conference has brought together. The solitude of the flower farm and enjoying the beauty in nature can be grounding and relaxing despite the hard work, but has been so much fun to come together with a community of people who as as passionate as me about dahlia's and locally grown flowers.
