The Melbourne Market is the heart of fresh produce in Victoria 🍊

It supplies small retailers like us, and many others across Victoria, Tasmania and southern NSW.

Every time we’re there, you see just how big this industry really is.
Growers, wholesalers, buyers, transport, retailers, teams working through the night, and produce moving in every direction! 😵‍💫

We only play a small part in that huge chain, but it’s an important one: bringing fresh produce back to Shepparton for our customers.

One of the hardest parts of fresh produce? Finding the right price. 🥹

Too high, and it’s not good value for our customers.
Too low, and we might sell out before we can restock.

That’s why we’re constantly talking with the shop while we’re at the market! checking stock levels, sales and making decisions in real time.

Because behind every price tag, there’s a lot more thought than most people realise.

Fresh produce should be affordable in Australia.

That’s something we really believe. 🫱🏻‍🫲🏼

But there are a lot of factors behind the final price: growers, markets, transport, fuel, staff, waste, timing, and the work it takes to get produce from the farm to your table. 🍇

This is the full radio spot we recorded, and from next week, you’ll start hearing it on air. It’s part of a bigger conversation we want to keep having.

Garlic and chives sourdough is ready 🧄

After all that mixing, resting, shaping and baking, here’s the final result: baked, sliced, and looking beautiful inside!

Every sourdough we make takes time, care, patience and flavour.
And yes, this one is definitely a bakery favourite!

We spoke too soon.. 👀😅

The night started well. Everything looked on track, the timing was looking good, and the market run was moving nicely!

Then we checked the clock... 6am already! But considering how much we got done it wasn’t too bad.

Overnight buying is a big job, and timing matters. The goal is always to get back as early as possible, restock what we’re missing, and have the shop ready for our first customers of the morning.

Sometimes everything runs smoothly. Sometimes the market has other plans.

Either way, we get it done! 💪🏼
