TEAM DOGS! 🐾

Meet Banks & Murphy - another two very happy members of the JFT team who know exactly where the best seat in the house is (after they’ve said hello to the nursery team and run the equivalent of a marathon)… the back of the ute! 🛻🐶🐶

At , our dogs are part of the team, and these two are always ready to tag along for the ride. Banks is the puppy of the pair - a naughty (but very adorable) one - while Murphy is his sensible older brother, keeping a watchful eye on things.

It doesn't get much better than watching Banks, Murphy and our other resident Golden Retriever, the young and equally cheeky Patrick, greet each other and race around the nursery, living their best lives. 💚🌿

And, as every dog-loving person knows, there’s nothing quite like having a four-legged mate (or three!) along for the journey. 💚🐾

And just like that, bare root season is almost done! 🌱

After three busy months of digging, grading, bundling, heeling in and shipping, the last of this season’s bare root trees are making their way out of the gate.

It’s been a season of early starts, long days, plenty of mud (with a few sunny days thrown in!) and a whole lot of teamwork. From the paddock to the final load, every tree has been handled with care to make sure our customers receive quality trees ready for the next stage of their journey.

A huge thank you to our incredible crew for everything you’ve put in this season. Whatever the weather threw at us, you kept things moving. We look forward to celebrating all your hard work with you - you’ve all earned a cold one! 👏

Now it’s time to take a breath, clean the mud off the tractors… and start getting ready for the next season. 🚜🌳 Same place, same time, next year?!

And one final reminder - we still have some bare root trees available! If you’ve had a last-minute customer order or need to stock up your trees in time for spring, get in touch. We’re ready to help!

What's better than one tractor on a tree nursery in winter? Two. Especially when it's 95% mud! 🚜🚜

It's wet, it's muddy, and it's definitely not glamorous - but bare root season waits for no one. This is the reality of the season: tractors pulling tractors, crews working through heavy rain, and long days doing what needs to be done, whatever the weather. When the trees are ready, the work gets done. Our team is out lifting, grading, bundling, heeling in, and then shipping thousands of bare root trees to our fantastic customers all across the country.

A huge thank you to our incredible crew who keep things moving, rain, mud and all. You really are the best!🏆

Thank you so much to our amazing team who baked some of the yummiest treats for our “Biggest Morning Tea”, in support of the Cancer Council Victoria and our team members, families and friends lost to or impacted by cancer. With everyone’s generous support, we not only reached our $500 target but exceeded it, raising an incredible $715.90.

Thank you to our Social Committee for organising this event and to those of you who donated, it is appreciated and your donations will all help to support those impacted by cancer.

At , dogs aren’t just welcome - they’re part of the team! We truly believe they make the world a little brighter (and the workday a whole lot better). 🐶 From walks through the nursery to keeping spirits high during busy days, our four-legged friends bring plenty of joy, laughter, and companionship to the team.

Patrick is no exception - always up for a pat, a play, or just hanging with the team. He keeps everyone smiling, especially when he decides to take a dip in the dam. We wouldn’t have it any other way. 💚

Our JFT family would like to pay tribute to team members, families and friends lost to or impacted by cancer.

We are proud to be hosting a “Biggest Morning Tea” this year on Thursday 21st May, in support of the , helping to raise vital funds for Australians impacted by cancer.

Ever wondered where those awesome autumn colours come from?

As the weather cools, days shorten, and leaves receive less sunlight, trees begin shutting down photosynthesis (the process plants use to turn sunlight into energy). Chlorophyll - the green pigment that converts sunlight into energy - breaks down, revealing the hidden yellow and orange pigments already inside the leaves (carotenoids and xanthophylls). Interestingly, chlorophyll appears green because it absorbs blue and yellow wavelengths of light, while reflecting green back to our eyes. Red and purple tones appear later when trapped sugars create anthocyanins, often triggered by sunny days and cold nights.

As trees become dormant, a hormone called abscisic acid forms a seal at the base of each leaf, allowing the tree to reabsorb valuable nutrients before the leaves fall. Reduced water flow traps remaining chemicals in the leaves, which gradually break down and change colour. Because this process happens at different rates, trees display many changing hues throughout autumn.
