Heat stress does not always show its full impact straight away.
Sue Hagenson from InBarn explains how heat stress today can affect egg quality six to eight weeks later, meaning fertility losses may only become clear once the weather has cooled.

Even when fans and feed lane soaking are already in place, turning them on too late can mean cows have started eating less and losing production.
Effective cooling needs to begin before the heat stress event, rather than once cows are already feeling the effects.
