🍒 Why Are There So Many Cherry Orchards in Tasmania, but So Few PYO?
The answer lies in both fruit quality and tree care.

🍒 Cherries are delicate — and so are the trees
Cherries are easily bruised, and improper picking can:
❌ damage the fruit stem
❌ reduce storage life
❌ affect next season’s yield

Even more importantly, rough handling can harm young branches and fruiting spurs, which directly impacts future harvests.

🍃Responsible harvesting protects the orchard
At IRON CREEK BAY ESTATE, we believe that harvesting cherries is not just about picking fruit — it’s about protecting the orchard for the future.

✔ Pick cherries with the stem attached
✔ Avoid pulling or twisting branches
✔ Be mindful of young shoots and leaves
✔ Never climb or lean on trees

These small actions help preserve the trees and ensure consistent harvests year after year.

🍒 PYO is about education, not just experience
PYO works best when visitors understand how precious the fruit and trees truly are.
With the right knowledge and respect, cherry picking can be both enjoyable and sustainable.

Thank you for supporting responsible picking and helping us care for our cherry trees at IRON CREEK BAY ESTATE.
