After a quick cup of coffee, back to the calving paddock and it's all over.

We had one of each Speckle Park colour type ("White", "Speckled" and "Black") all mated to Ravenworth Invictus a well known easy calving "Speckled" bull. Each heifer produced a Speckled calf (2 heifer calves and 1 bull calf) and you can see the variation of colour penetrance in the photos.

Membranes and 2 front feet is a welcome sight. Our last heifer to calve (CPS U47 Uganda) is doing a great job in labour. I expect this to go quickly with the easy calving "Ravenworth Invictus" as sire.

Sorry we haven't posted for a bit but we've just been too busy.

Firstly. Our 3 heifers in calf to Ravenworth Invictus have started to calve which is very exciting. CPS U39 "U Likey" (see photos) delivered a beautiful 36kg heifer calf this morning.

We also got our Myostatin gene free group back from Embryo Transfer SA after a successful flush to order and we get to AI them in a couple of weeks. We're cleaning out the tank a bit so will be digging deep and using a real mixed bag of oldies including "Lacerta", "Zazu", "Hawkeye", "CnE", "Invictus", "Montezuma", "Promise", and "Double Down" and the more recent JAD "Unstoppable" for some heifers. It will be fun to see what they can do for our current group as well as planning some IVF for next year using breed legend "Stands Alone".

We've got some very good 2 year old bulls currently available at great prices and now have females for sale over the second half of the year. All vaccinated, vet checked and ready to breed.

We'll be starting to keep some steers for our hand raised Speckle Park Beef project kicking off next year. We're hoping local customers will enjoy the superior meat quality of grass fed Speckle Park Beef combined with a fully traceable history from birth to processing, raised on the same properties in Kenton Valley in the Adelaide Hills.

Finally, after planting our 12 Hectare cool climate vineyard in 2021 we've made some wine this year. This will be available under our evolving "Coldwell Estate" brand specialising in only 3 grape varieties; Hand picked and hand pruned Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Nebbiolo. Imagine washing down a perfectly cooked Speckle Park steak with a glass of Coldwell Estate Pinot Noir. Or mixing it up with Steak Tartare and a glass of premium Coldwell Estate Chardonnay?

Our first wines are currently in French Oak barrels waiting patiently and we hope to release a red and white table wine as well as a traditional method sparkling chardonnay later in 2027.

We’re pruning Chardonnay in block C (Needles) this morning. It’s rained solidly all week so it’s 4wd only past the loading bay. Toast is very happy we’re back at Rosasharn.

Wrong side of the fence. Maybe not so lucky next time. Lots of rabbits = lots of foxes here in the Adelaide Hills.

I love my little girl. Excellent ratter, mouser and can smell something dead and rotten to roll around in for miles. Today, she caught her first rabbit. Brought to me and dropped it at my feet. Theres certainly no shortage in the hills these days. Good dog.

My uptown girls enjoying a nice Chardonnay with their activated Barley. We always leave a couple of rows at Rosasharn for the cows while we wait for the vines to shut down over winter.
