It’s been a few weeks since we picked the last apples, and I’ve finally had time to decompress, reset and reflect on our first season.

There were plenty of challenges and lots of lessons, but three things really stood out:

1. Having a great team — both permanent and seasonal — is critical.
2. Keeping everyone informed, involved and engaged when things get tough makes a real difference.
3. Respecting each other, supporting one another and having some fun along the way makes everything better.

At the end of the day, it’s all about people (and dogs 🐾🐾😉).

A big thank you to everyone who helped us through the season. We couldn’t have done it without you

Today we are picking my favourite rows in the whole orchard.

The fruit looks amazing and it's a block where we got most things right from pruning, thinning and irrigation.

I always come to these rows when I need to "breathe" and reset that it will all be fine in the end!

This long weekend was all about rest and recovery for the team. Food, family and good wine ended up being a bit of a theme at our place.

Week 3 of picking is about to begin in the Back Block at Ayers Orchard. This is one of my favourite blocks. It's full of good fruit and has a nice and peaceful position in the orchard.

Today we started to pick one of our (my) favourite varieties...Golden Delicious.
Being such delicate fruit we take a bit more care when picking.

My Papa had a tree in South Australia and I just loved them from a young age.

Oh and check out the Royal Gala from our Flat Block. We have thrown everything we can at them in such a challenging year and I couldn't be happier with how they are growing.

Week 1 done and dusted.

180 bins picked in 3 days.

We started last week with four words; Safety, Technique, Attitude and Respect. The team lived up to each and every word and what it means to help us have a great picking season.

Inside jobs and ongoing maintenance on the agenda today.

The grading line is going and it's wonderful to see the fruit being packed ready for the local market.
