Jode’s Mediterranean Eatery (1,200+ 5 star reviews for a reason!) šŸ§†

The service here is honestly amazing.. you can tell they genuinely love what they do. I ordered the healthy meal and it was packed with flavour AND a generous portions of meat, rice, and salad. You can even make it super spicy if that’s your thing šŸŒ¶ļø

The pricing is so good for the quality you get. You really don’t find many places offering a filling, high quality meal for under $20 these days. I’ve tried both the chicken and lamb and they’re equally delicious.. and the falafel is a fave our ours too.

Definitely a spot to check out!!!

Whether you’ve visited this brunch spot or only seen their hilarious viral videos, you’re bound to fall in love with this place! This is in Balaclava, they honestly serve the best brunch dishes I’ve had in Melbourne and they’re all middle eastern inspired too. I feel they really get to know their customers, especially Clara, the owner.. and it’s equally impressive how many coffee orders Dee, the barista, remembers without even having to ask what someone wants.

It’s a lively cafĆ©, dog friendly and good for groups! Expect fast service and low waiting times. The outdoor area is also a huge sun trap and very airy inside the cafĆ©. Everything is moderately priced at around $20 per brunch dish and as you can see, they’re not shy on the portions! It’s just one of those memorable brunch spots you will always go back to.

What we tried and loved:
SALMON BENEDICT / Toasted brioche topped with smoked salmon, poached eggs and beetroot hollandaise. We received a generous amount of everything! Brioche bread was buttery and flaky. Poached eggs cooked perfect. Crispy sweet potato on top was a great addition.

MENEMEN / Eggs cooked with veggies and Middle Eastern spices. A class on this menu, lovely spices to tie everything together and served with a warm simit bagel.

LAMB KOFTA BOWL /Juicy kofta with couscous, labneh, harissa oil, warm pitta and fattoush salad. This is officially my summer lunch order, love how fresh and healthy it was without taking away the taste.

PISTACHIO FRENCH TOAST / Thick, crispy French toast style bake filled with pistachio cream, topped with berries, crushed pistachio and a scoop of gorgeous vanilla ice cream. A truly show-stopping dessert and the perfect end to any meal!

Trying the coffee here is a must, as well as the fresh juices, strawberry matcha and smoothies. Let me know if you visit and what you think! 😊

My first time trying Yunnanese food! Yunnan’s a region in southwest China and their cuisine generally incorporates fresh herbs, wild ingredients, tangy flavours and a nice hit of spice. We enjoyed a range of light, fresh dishes with tender meat and veggies and the best part was that nothing felt greasy. You leave feeling full in a good way and not weighed down. I also loved how everything was presented to encourage sharing!!

If it’s your first time trying Yunnanese food, I’d recommend ordering the Taste of YunnanĀ sharing platter ($118). It comes with:

Dai Lemon Chicken
Your choice of coriander oysterĀ or orange scallop
Plum cherry tomatoes (super juicy and a great pairing with the meats)
Cheese apple salad (my favourite veggie addition)
Ge Jui grilled chicken skewer
Fried chips pancake (honestly so good)
Your choice of mint pork ribĀ or Dai pork belly we chose the pork belly.
Yanna mushroom fried rice
Plus an array of veggies and spicy seasonings to dip your meat into!

I absolutely loved this platter! The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the uncooked okra. We also added the Dai Steak because we thought the platter wouldn’t fill us (lol) but I’m glad we got it. The meat was tender and the brussel sprouts were cooked perfectly. You don’t often see brussel sprouts as a side but I’m happy they included them.

Overall, an amazing meal and I’d love to come back with more people so they can experience it too.

LIVE MUSIC, DANCING, GERMAN FOOD AND LOTS OF BEER!

If you haven’t visited Das Bier Haus in Richmond or Geelong yet, now is the time. It’s not your every day evening out to a restaurant, it’s a full on experience. The interior, the dirdl outfits on the waitresses, the music, the dancing, the tradition german food, heaps of beer.. Everything just comes together perfectly.

Our recommendations:
If there’s a few of you, go for the Bavarian Feast Platter ($139), you’ll get a variety of meat including pork knucle, schnitzel, pork belly, ribs bratwurst along side German classics such as sauerkraut, mashed potato, red cabbage and dips. I loved everything apart from the pork knuckle but that’s just a meat preference of mine! Britta has tried a lot of sauerkraut and thought this was the best she’s ever had.

They have a variety of German sausages on the menu that you can buy on the menu - even vegan ones! So, although my reel looks completely taken over by meat items, there actually is something for every dietary requirement.

The starters were delicious, everything on the menu is made fresh to order which is so impressive considering how busy the restaurant gets. I especially loved the flammkuchen.

Finally, the must try beer on the menu has to be the Weihenstephan which is described as a malt-based beer with banana and clove aromas. It was definitely enjoyable! We had 2 until we decided it was time for cocktails.

Overall, a lovely experience, fantastic service and a great evening out!
