To all our loyal customers - thanks for sticking with us…

However we are CLOSED AGAIN !!

Not Brevetoxin this time but another nasty.

Once again if you see oysters in the shops or markets they are safe to eat… they won’t be from Stansbury.

When are we as a society going to get the message that the marine environment in Gulf St. Vincent and is broken and take serious action.

This is death by a thousand cuts! Re-establish markets with customers only to have to say… sorry!!

I know research science takes a long time, but perhaps the State Government could give the job of investigation to the SA Electoral Commission… if they can find out what is going on … they seem to be a readymade scapegoat…

Algal Bloom update!!

The 4 corners report on the Algal Bloom has been bumped to Monday 16/3/26 “!?$&”

Apparently, there are others things happening in the world that are considered more important (who knew!)

So, if you are interested in peering into the life of an Oyster Farmer and seeing Stansbury’s social elite in their natural habitat (the front bar of the Hotel) tune into ABC at 8:30 Monday 16/3/26. (Oh… we might also find out the cause of the bloom).

Sales update.

After 8 months closed with the Algal Bloom (Brevetoxin) making oysters unsafe to eat - the Bay opened again at 3:30pm on December 31, 2025.

We commenced shed sales on January 2, 2026. A huge thank you to all those people who supported us during that time. It was great to have something coming in, after 8 months of going out!!

Sales lasted until 3rd week of January when the oysters spawned. the quality of the oysters becomes so inconsistent that we don’t sell.

The Algal Bloom closed us again on February 18 until February 27 (this time for another toxin (not Karenia or Brevetoxin). This toxin has been seen in Australia before and its behaviour was well understood…

No big deal - since we don’t normally sell at this time anyway! - due to the spawning.

With the long weekend coming up and the Stansbury Seaside Market on Saturday i was keen to see what effect the rain had on our oysters.

I checked the condition yesterday and regrettably the condition is still poor and we will not be selling this weekend…

They are showing good growth but they are yet to return to their plump and delicious condition.

I think they will be good to sell at Easter time - and will be available towards the end of March.

Please hang in a bit longer.

In the meantime stay well, stay safe and see you at Easter…

Day 14 of selling again - Woohoo! It is great to be generating sales and have money in the pocket and going back into the bank.

We are a long way from breaking even - but we are on the way…

Special shout out to the Stansbury community for their support. That one or two dozen you buy makes a huge difference!!

Regrettably, oysters will spawn in the next few days resulting in inconsistent flavour and a marked difference in look and mouth feel.

This is part of the annual reptoductive cycle and nothing to do with the Algal Bloom.

We will stop selling for the next few weeks until the oysters are once again plump and flavoursome.

I would love to see you all at the shed towards the end of March.

What this space for updates on spawning and recovery.

STOP THE CLOCK!! - Day 241 of the closure… and we are now open - Woohoo! Advice received from PIRSA food safety - no Brevetoxin and oysters are safe to eat as from 3:00 pm on 31/12/25…

We look forward to a “kick-ass” 2026!

24/12/2025

Day 233 of the closure because of brevetoxin.

Closing in on 8 months without a sale.

Starting to look like we might be open soon! ….

Dont want to get ahead of ourselves… as the prevailing winds at this time of year - N/West, S/West and S/East establish a water circulation pattern in the Gulf St. Vincent from Stansbury to Adelaide and back… holding the water in the Gulf and potentially bringing the Bloom back to us!!

We have to test below the Food Safety threshold 0.8 mg (in oyster meat ) for 2 weeks in a row and have declining Karenia sp (in the water) for the same period….

We have had one test of 0.79 …. With decreasing Karenia in the water for 2 weeks in a row… All we need is 1 more meat test below the threshold …. And we have the all clear… (for now!)

However, i was out on Monday this week and no birds seen on the lease … let that sink in… no bird life says to me - no bait fish, no crabs and no predatory fish… in other words - something is still not right… the marine environment is still out of balance.

None-the-less - there has been much sadness in the past week in the wake of the Bondi massacre, (my heart goes out to all those affected). Such a tragedy makes our problems in oyster world pale into insignificance…

Wishing all our supporters a safe, happy and healthy Christmas, and a happy 2026 and beyond.

We are certainly looking forward to 2026 and putting a line under 2025.
