Granite Belt Wine Country

Granite Belt Wine Country Meet the makers, growers, lovers of Australia's highest wine region, escape to Qld's coolest climate. Yes, it can even snow.

It is beautiful country; rugged and diverse, dotted with precariously balancing prehistoric granite boulders, fertile soil, big sky panoramas, meandering creeks, gourmet produce and award winning boutique wineries. The Granite Belt has all the right ingredients for indulgent rejuvenation and consummation. Located just two-and-a half hours drive south-east of Brisbane on the New South Wales Border,

the Granite Belt sits high on a plateau of the Great Dividing Range and feels like you are close to the heavens. Its lowest point is 700m above sea level, and peaks at 1200m, making it one of Australia’s highest wine and fruit producing areas. The region is small but diverse, stretching just 60kms from north to south and roughly half as wide. Dotted along the New England highway, the town of Tenterfield sits immediately to the south. Warwick to the north and Stanthorpe marks the centre of the region. Through the region country lanes wind through vineyards, orchards and the namesake granite boulders which dot the landscape like crazy marbles dropped from on high. Soaring altitude creates a region of four season and a climate a world away from Queensland counterparts. But it is the seasons that guide life in the Granite Belt, with each changing season, so does the produce it reaps. If it’s a tranquil escape from reality or an adrenaline charged adventure you’re in need of the Granite Belt.
