Savina Lane Wines

Savina Lane Wines Premium wines made from single vineyard, hand-picked fruit grown at Savina Lane on the Granite Belt

Savina Lane produces hand-crafted premium wine from our family vineyard located at an elevated position of 850 metres on the Granite Belt - just north of the NSW/Queensland border - has been produced from environmentally sustainable viticulture where organic principles are followed wherever possible. The quality of fruit produced from each vine is strictly limited to allow our grapes to develop ri

ch, natural flavours. Fruit from each variety is hand-picked from a single block and the wines carefully made under optimal conditions. Only a small number of bottles of each variety is produced from each vintage.

Yes, it's winter and the bare vines are enjoying their annual nap, but there is still such beauty in the quiet landscape, especially if you're up early enough to see the sunrise as our colleague Leigh de Lissa was one lovely morning recently. Brad has the log fire going in the cellar door and we're busy welcoming visitors wearing beanies and jumpers, although it's been mild and sunny enough on the terrace overlooking the vineyard to relax without rugging up. Leigh, Brad, our grand-daughter Layne (manager of glass-washing and polishing at weekends) and I are on duty if you're out our way. Thursdays to Sundays 10am to 4pm. See you sometime.

Caught in the act this morning rearranging all the dry, crisp, autumn leaves in the Tempranillo on my way to the cellar door. It takes me back to happy times with my friend Henriette, who would take me for long walks in the golden beech forests of France's Haute Loire at leaf-fall, just before the snows arrived. Winter is coming to the Granite Belt too. It has been as low as -1.6C recently and yesterday down to +2.5C. Time to pull out those snuggly jumpers! Best, Cheryl

This is what you do when vintage is over! Brad is making Passata from vine-ripened Roma tomatoes picked at a friend's farm just around the corner. I think he harvested several hundred kilos with the help of his mate Rob Abbas and passata has been bubbling away at our place for days. Brad is using the lovely copper preserving pan given to us during a long sojourn in France by a group of dear friends there many years ago. It looks like vintage 2026 for tomatoes was just as good as for wine grapes as the Romas are rich and deep red. Can't wait for some pasta with that! A few days off now before Easter weekend which is booked out. Cheers. Cheryl

It's done. Over. At last Vintage 2026 is in the winery and Brad and I can stop watching the weather so avidly. Our wonderful team of pickers carefully hand-harvested the last block - the Montepulciano - on Wednesday and is now taking the rest of the year off! It's been a beautiful vintage quality-wise and we are looking forward to tasting the results. The first signs of Autumn have arrived here. Leaves are changing colour as the vineyard prepares for a little sleep before doing it all again in Spring. We're closed Good Friday and don't open Mondays, but will all be here on Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday if you're down our way. Cheers Cheryl

This time next week we'll be celebrating the end of Vintage 2026 and it won't matter what the weather does to us - at least for this season. The quality has been wonderful and we are so grateful to our team of experienced local grape pickers as well as the lovely young French backpackers, Sami and Diana, for the excellent job they are doing. Brad's already planning what to bake for the picking team's morning tea breaks next week (he makes something delicious each time), when we harvest the last two blocks (Tempranillo and Montepulciano). Sami came over to help Brad take the nets off the Graciano a couple of days ago and I thought I would post a couple of images of Brad's invention which makes taking nets off easy. We've been using it for the past 13 years. All you need is one strong person and a tractor with driver. We call it the POTO. The net putter-on and taker-off. I drove that tractor for many years while Brad pulled in the nets. Such fun.

Vintage 2026 has begun! We took the Viognier off this week and both Brad and winemaker Abraham are ecstatic about choosing exactly the right time to harvest, with the laboratory analysis and Brad's gut feelings in sync (this doesn't always happen). Sometimes the science can say the fruit is ready when it still isn't physiologically ripe. Viognier is a tricky one to harvest at the perfect moment, so we are all jumping around with huge smiles. To add to our delight is the taste of the juice. Such gorgeous apricot.

Love was in the air at Savina Lane yesterday as we reopened our cellar door and welcomed our first visitors for 2026. An aspiring young groom decided it was the perfect place for a marriage proposal! Congratulations to the happy couple who enjoyed a wine tasting after the proposal (accepted) before returning in the afternoon for a picnic in the pines. It is only a few months since two of our members became engaged in the pine forest, so there must be something about the place that gets hearts beating.
Speaking of romance, we've had the joy of watching a family of 14 ducklings grow from balls of fluff to full-size. The parents have been shepherding their little flock around for several months, reacting vigorously to the smallest threat. Love is everywhere!
Our cellar door is now open again after our Christmas/New Year break, Thursdays to Sundays 10am to 4pm. See you soon?

It's been a year of hard work and more than a little frolicking with our Inner Circle members and friends. The 2026 harvest is approaching fast. So much perfect fruit on the vines has caused us some heartache as we snip up to 50% off some of the varieties. Some years are like that. Too much of a good thing. But the outcome will be worth the effort.
Thank you to our friends and Inner Circle members who have shown so much love and support for our endeavours here at Savina Lane, throughout the year. We are humbled by your enthusiasm and continued interest.
We wish you and your family a very happy ending to 2025 and good health and many happy adventures in 2026.
The cellar door closes today and will reopen on January 8th. Of course the work in the vineyard doesn't take a holiday so we will be celebrating at home. See you next year!

Spring has definitely sprung! Bud-burst has arrived and the vines are about to flower and set the fruit for the next vintage. The vineyards canvas is once again green and vibrating with new life. We continue to open from Thursday to Sunday each week, 10am to 4pm.

The misty mornings we’ve been enjoying here at Savina Lane are beautiful if ephemeral. Everything looks so mysterious shrouded in mist. We’ve had bud burst in almost all the varieties which means the 2026 growing season has begun and there will be no more late starts to our day until vintage next year. The cellar door is open Thursday to Sunday this last weekend of September but closed for the long weekend of October due to our Inner Circle members visiting en masse. Open again from the Thursday 9th October. Hope to welcome visitors right through the remainder of the year.
