Sometimes when we are only moving a small amount of girls we use our trailer to take the sows to avoid a slow walk!

These girls are going up to the rotational gestation paddock of their batch after preg scanning at 28 days.

We recently made the drop down ramp, we had to make it stronger to take the big girls and it is perfect now (just got to add some mesh for the girls to have more grip on the way down.

If you are heading to Tumut this weekend, check out the Tumut River Brewing Co !

Local growers & makers supporting each other πŸ‘

Better than a Quarter Pounder, outshines a Cheese Royale... in Tumut it's a COWBOY SMASH BURGER (with a hat tip to local cowboy Cooper Thatcher from Darbalara who just rode another kickass 8 seconds at the Parker County Sheriffs Posse Frontier Days Rodeo in Weatherford, Texas - smashing it!) 🀠

Also on the blackboard this weekend, the Mafia inspired PIZZA CAPRICCIOSA and the good ol' CHIPS & GRAVY - with our secret TRBC seasoning. πŸ•΅οΈ

So Autumn has been & gone and winter is among us!

What do you want to see from Stockinpiggle and Stockinpiggle Farm Produce?

We have been thinking about & have been asked a lot to run some tours for awhile now after all that is how it all started!

I love the idea of one day having a long lunch on the farm, paired with the local producers & makers who support us and we support back either through the farm, the butchery & our Bah Bah Food & Wine by Stockinpiggle, celebrating local & feasting.

What do you think?

For now, head into Stockinpiggle Farm Produce, 18 Adams St, Coota open:
Mon to Fri
8:30am till 5:30pm
Saturday
9am till 1pm
Or online 24/7

We moved some grower pigs around earlier this week! It’s that time of year when we start to sow some paddocks and set a plan for farrowing for the next 6 batches or so.

We like to not have had any pigs is any of the paddocks we plan on farrowing in for at least 90 days in summer and about 120 in winter.

Trial and error has taught us this over the past 8 years on the farm 🐷

Here are some future gilts that we have drafted off out of a batch, these girls are 17-19wks.

In the past we have worked out 20 weeks old or earlier we either need to take the girls away from the 2 or 3 young stud boars we keep in tack per batch that could eventually become stud sires or we take the entire males away from the batch!

This is our first selection for the batch, we will leave the girls on a feeder until they are average 21 weeks before we draft again and choose or future gilts/future sows.

For our final choice we will go back through and we will keep the females we think are taking our lines forward!

Running through the pasture with the old disc seeder with a winter mix!

Old Muzz enjoys it every year!

Taking a walk around the farrowing paddock, checking on the girls and seeing how our new change to our FR Shelters is going!

We like the girls to at least raise their head or give a little bark when we approach the huts, that way we the girls are more aware & protective of their piglets when they are laying down, walking and hopping up 🐷

Some of these girls are close to 400kg and have up to 14 little piglets around 1kg to keep safe!
