Tell me you’re a sourdough baker without telling me you’re a sourdough baker. 😂🍞

You wake up, check your starter and it’s PERFECT. Doubled in size, full of bubbles, beautifully domed and ready to make bread.

There’s just one tiny problem… you’ve got to go to work. 🙃

The thing about sourdough is that your starter doesn’t care about your schedule!

A little sourdough tip: If your starter peaks before you’re ready to bake, pop it in the fridge to slow fermentation. Or, next time, adjust your feeding ratio or use cooler water to help delay that peak.

Because sometimes sourdough is less about following a recipe and more about learning to work with your starter’s timing.

Please tell me I’m not the only one this happens to! 😂

🍓 Are you washing your fruit and veggies properly? 🥬🍇

We all know eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables is one of the best things we can do for our health. But have you ever stopped to think about what might be left on them before they reach your plate?

That’s where the Dirty Dozen comes in! 🌱

Every year, the Environmental Working Group (EWG) releases a list of 12 fruits and vegetables found to have some of the highest pesticide residues in their US testing data.

And some of our everyday favourites, including strawberries, grapes, spinach and apples, make the list!

Now, I’m definitely not suggesting we stop eating these foods. Quite the opposite! Fresh produce is incredibly important for our health, and the benefits of eating fruit and vegetables far outweigh the potential risks from pesticide residues.

But I do believe in making informed choices about the food we’re feeding ourselves and our families. 💚

So what can we do?

🥦 Choose organic where possible and affordable, particularly for produce you eat regularly.

🍓 Wash your fruit and vegetables thoroughly under running water, even if they’re organic.

🍇 Gently rub or scrub firm produce to help remove dirt and some surface residues.

🥬 Remove the outer leaves of leafy vegetables where appropriate.

And remember, washing can help reduce some pesticide residues, but it won’t remove everything.

I’ve included a simple produce-washing guide in the final slide. Just keep in mind that a baking soda soak isn’t necessary for every fruit or vegetable, and its effectiveness varies depending on the pesticide.

Swipe through to discover the Dirty Dozen and how to give your produce a good clean! 👉

💚 Save this post for your next grocery shop, and share it with someone who loves their fresh fruit and veggies!

One last thing worth remembering: the Dirty Dozen is based on US data, so it doesn’t necessarily reflect pesticide residues in Australian-grown produce.

🐝 These tiny workers play a much bigger role in our food than we often realise.

Bees pollinate many of the plants that produce the fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds we eat every day. But with Varroa mite now established in Australia, protecting bee health has become even more important.

It’s another reminder that our food doesn’t simply begin on a supermarket shelf. It starts with healthy soil, plants, farmers, pollinators and entire ecosystems working together. 🌱🌼

Because when bees thrive, so does the food on our tables.

Fairy bread. That was at every birthday, every school celebration and somehow it was like pure joy.
Be honest, how many pieces did you eat?
