It’s officially the weekend! 🐑

And we’re counting down the days until our new ram, Bronson, arrives!

The ladies have been running absolutely wild lately, helping themselves to my mango, avocado and mulberry trees despite my best efforts to protect them all. Perhaps the arrival of a handsome new man might finally distract them from destroying my summer fruit trees.

Bronson… you have a mission 🐏

So much green after the last week of rain 🌱

And with all the greenery comes this weekends harvest - we will have radishes, a few punnets of snow peas and snap peas, cherry tomatoes and fresh herbs all straight from the garden, plus also honey, our last few elderberry syrup bottles, ginger elixir and edible flowers all ready for pick up.

Eggs are all spoken for 🥚

Message us if you’d to place an order ☀️

Blessed cause a massive Jabiru decided to stop by for breakfast this morning 🙏🏼

Standing around 1.3-1.4m tall, he casually fished a fat 50cm eel out of our dam and swallowed it like it was nothing 🫣 Meanwhile the sheep were absolutely terrified, huddled in the corner while this giant bird towered over them.

This is the fourth time we’ve spotted a Jabiru here, but the first time I’ve actually had my phone on me to grab a quick photo without disturbing him.

Such a special visitor!

Apologies for the image quality!

Something a little different this morning 🌸

I want to preface this by saying I’m not a baker and this is literally my second time ever touching a piping bag, but… Over the weekend it was our daughter’s teacher’s birthday, and because we absolutely adore her, I decided that meant I needed to learn how to make buttercream and pipe onto cupcakes last night and wake up at 5am this morning to make some edible art 👩🏻‍🍳

Made with our own hand-churned butter, our own duck eggs, our homemade vanilla bean paste and, of course, edible flowers freshly picked from our gardens!

A little birthday treat for our teacher and the other beautiful teachers who look after our girl every day.

Our little strawberry patch is thriving 🍓

A few short months ago we got these as FREE strawberry runners from a wonderful lady in a local harvest swap, and they quickly became our daughter’s favourite garden bed. One of the biggest reasons we wanted to create this little life was to give her a childhood with plenty of time away from screens, time spent outside getting her hands dirty, growing food, caring for animals, understanding where things come from and learning skills she’ll carry with her for life.

And if she gets to eat handfuls of sun-warmed, chemical free, organic strawberries along the way, even better 🍓

Bertha’s babies are HUGE! 🐥

At three weeks old, these little guys are officially threenagers… Running wild, stressing Mumma out, eating us out of house and home, and getting cheekier by the day with the dogs, ducks and bigger hens. Only a few weeks till they’ll be completely integrated into our flock!

Not every garden project is a huge success… but we’ll take the little wins too 🥔🌱

A few months ago, I planted out some old potatoes we were given at the markets, not seed potatoes, just freebies a vendor was planning on throwing out.

Yesterday we dug up our first grow bag and found a dozen little potatoes from two of them. Nothing huge, and maybe not worth it to some, but turning something destined for the bin into a little harvest is what substantially is about.

We’ve got four more grow bags going - some certified seed potatoes and some more market freebies. Now to see which ones give us the best bang for buck!
