I was able to sneak in Top Shelf Whisky Show by in the last 30 minutes and try some banger whiskies at fraction of the price. And of course i had to try first as it is my most favourite! 🤩

“RUE DE LA CHARTREUSE” by Amber Lane

My love affair with Australian whisky started with Amber Lane… 💛 and I wouldn’t hesitate to say that Amber Lane is probably one of the top Australian distilleries out there. Anything they do is just incredible! 🙌 This is literally the only distillery where I’ve tried and loved Every. Single. One. of their whiskies.

There are so many of their releases I could share, but I chose this one specifically because it’s something no one has ever done before. I mean - no one in the WORLD!!! 🌍 They did it for the first time and already nailed it.

So, as you might know, Chartreuse is one of the most closely guarded spirits on the planet. 🔐 The monks who make it don’t share their recipes with anyone, and getting your hands on a Chartreuse cask means literally all the stars in the galaxy had to align perfectly. ✨⭐ And somehow, it ended up in Amber Lane’s hands! Being in the care of Rod and Phil, they knew exactly how to make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. In their case, it’s not luck - it’s a precise scientific approach combined with an incredible stroke of fortune. 🔬

By sharing this whisky, I want to show you just how unique it is. Sure, maybe it’s not the best whisky in the world, but it’s CERTAINLY one of the most interesting ones out there! 🤔

I’m also really happy that I got to bring this bottle and share it with some amazing people during my trip to Japan and Taiwan. 🇯🇵🇹🇼 There’s something special about introducing folks to a whisky this unique! 😊

🥃 FORTUNA “8 Summers Old” by Rare Character Whiskey ()

Two or three years back, I tried the regular Fortuna release at the whisky event and it was FANTASTIC - been hunting for another bottle ever since! 🔍 Huge shoutout to for tracking down this seriously rare gem - the 8 Summers Old Barrel Proof. Gotta say, I love that unique age statement. 👌

A QUICK HISTORY: Fortuna was originally one of the defining brands during the late 19th century whiskey boom. It was crafted by German immigrant Phil Hollenbach, who wanted to share his “Taste of Good Fortune” with the world. 🌟 That same spirit of dedication lives on in this modern revival by Rare Character.

This “8 Summers Old” is a much bigger beast than the standard release i tried. 💪 When I first opened it six months ago, the ABV punch was absolutely massive. Half a year later… it’s still the same - super punchy and spicy. 🔥

Honestly, it’s just not what I reach for when I want to drink neat, which is usually my thing. I know the bourbon world goes crazy for these high-proof monsters, and often “more ABV” does mean “more flavor.” But with this one, the extreme heat actually feels like a disadvantage. 🌶️ Not quite what i wanted out of this bottle. 😰 The flavor’s definitely there, but it really needs some serious water or the perfect cocktail to tame it down. 💧

It’s a quality, intense dram for sure, but sometimes more is just… more. 😅 Still totally stoked to have this rarity on my shelf, but this one’s reserved for when I need a serious palate shock! ⚡

Whisky In Isolation “Good Things”

Couldn’t wait on this one. Bottle looked too good sitting there, so the seal’s cracked and we’re in! Well… so in that the bottle is half finished now 🤣

But Justin’s done it again 👏🏻 The man’s got a proper eye for something special, and this release proves it! 🌟

Few notes on why this release is different 📝:

It’s their first ever triple distilled pot still whiskey. Head distiller Chris built a whole new mashbill for it - 50% malted barley, 50% unmalted grains (mostly barley, with some oat and wheat thrown in). Then they matured it in a custom cask made from American oak bourbon staves seasoned with premium Oloroso sherry. Another first for the distillery.

I’m not gonna dive deep into tasting notes (you can find all that on his website), but I can tell you this - it’s viscous, rich, got a bit of sweetness, fruity, long finish, and it’s just a phenomenal drink 🥃 🤌🏻

The specs:
• 500ml
• 52% ABV
• Cask strength (im guessing)

If you’re on the fence about grabbing one of these releases, don’t be. It delivers! 😌 This is what happens when a distillery pushes boundaries and a selector knows exactly what to look for.

Massive thanks to for the best giveaway win! 🏆 Seriously, a unicorn bottle! 🦄✨ The distiller told me to warm it up in the glass with my hand to get the notes to pop. I did it, and OMG. 🤯

It’s got these beautiful rich dark fruits - plums and dates (like lots of dates!), with a little spiced honey and superb viscous texture with super long, cozy finish. Definitely a winter warmer. 🔥 Seriously delicious 🤤

What a journey this bottle has been! 🥃 Seriously, a huge thank you to for connecting us with the right people ( )and bringing this beauty .nl to the country especially for members. You are the best, mate! 🙏

When I first cracked open this Ichiro , I’ll be honest, I wasn’t entirely sure. It had that initial alcohol punch and a strong wine cask forward profile that made me pause. 🤔 So, I did what any patient whisky lover would do - I let it breathe for a month. And oh, what a difference a little time makes! ✨

Tried it again yesterday, and voila! It truly opened up exactly as I’d hoped. The flavors are so much more settled and pleasant now, with a wonderfully long finish. But my absolute favorite part was that viscous texture! 😍 It just coats the palate beautifully. Sometimes, the best things truly come to those who wait.

Ok… this bottle that put me onto is 🤯🔥 First time I’ve had a whisky made with Weizen liquor yeast (yep, the same stuff they use in wheat beers) and it showed - banana 🍌 , clove, bready 🌾 sweetness sneaking into the malt. Funky but it somehow works very well 🥃

59% and only 219 bottles… of course I had to fall for one I’ll never see again 🤦‍♂️😂 Thanks (and also screw you a little) for the intro, mate! 🙌

Sometimes you’ve just got to admire a bottle before diving in 🤿

Glenrothes has a reputation for elegant, layered drams – rich fruits, gentle oak, and that old-school depth you only get from time. This one sat in cask since 1997 before being bottled in 2023 at cask strength.

Big thanks to for the Rare Pink 1960 Queen of Hearts 🩷 A cigar that deserves the right pour to match 😌

Not gonna lie, I grabbed it for the art. But heard the juice inside is as good as it looks outside 🤌🏻
