Every time someone in our group chat has a baby, we send them this.

It started as one of us dropping a bundle to whoever was in the newborn fog, and somewhere along the way it just became the thing we do. New baby? The freezer gets filled. No one has to ask, no one has to cook, and she gets a week of actual dinners in the stretch where everyone means to help and life gets in the way.

Turns out the best thing you can put in a group chat isn’t a “let me know if you need anything.” It’s this. 🤍

Save this for the next baby announcement in yours.

Week three postpartum is when she needs help most. It’s also exactly when it stops coming.

The help clusters at the start, because that’s the moment we all know to show up for. But the need doesn’t peak at the start. It climbs. So the help and the hard just miss each other. Nobody’s thoughtless. The timing’s just backwards.

If you’re the friend who couldn’t be there in week one, good news: week three is your moment. A meal now lands harder than flowers did on day two. 🤍

We spend so much time building a registry for the baby.

The pram. The bassinet. The bottles. The swaddles. The tiny clothes they’ll somehow grow out of in three weeks.

But what about the person having the baby?

The New Mum Registry is for her.

Meals in the freezer. A cleaner. A feeding station within arm’s reach. Someone to take the older kids. A number to call when feeding feels hard. A friend who comes over and doesn’t need hosting. Fresh sheets. A shower. A few hours of uninterrupted sleep.

Not more stuff. Support. Nourishment. Comfort. Care.

Because preparing for postpartum should be just as normal as preparing for the baby.

Save this for later, send it to an expecting mum, or better yet - ask her what’s on her registry 🤍

Here’s what to send a friend who just had a baby.

Not another onesie she’ll pack away in a week. Actual dinners. The thing she’ll be quietly grateful for at 6pm when she hasn’t eaten since breakfast and can’t remember putting the kettle on.

Daisy’s stacking a bundle into the freezer here, which is exactly where it earns its keep. Meals ready for the weeks the help thins out and the hard doesn’t.

Skip the flowers. Send the freezer fill. 🤍

These are things that we believe (tried and tested) make a real difference. Keep it simple. Make it matter. Don’t forget yourself when planning for the arrival of your Baby 💛

Week two postpartum is the drop no one warns you about.

The adrenaline wears off, the freezer meals run out, and the world quietly shifts to the baby. If you’re in it: this isn’t you failing. It’s just the week the help thins out and the hard hasn’t. If you love someone in it: skip “let me know if you need anything,” she won’t. Send dinner, or a text that needs no reply.

Tag a friend at week two, or send this to someone who should read it. 🤍

5 things I’d tell my best friend before she has a baby. The stuff the baby books skip.

Take the help. Rest. And get your freezer sorted before the nursery, because future you will be starving at 6pm with no spare hands.

Save this for your own fourth trimester. And if you know a first-time mum, send it her way. 🤍

One-Pot Tangy-Noodle Recipe 🍜

Ingredients

Drizzle of olive oil
1 medium red onion
2 heaped teaspoons fresh ginger (more if you like it gingery)
2 cups shredded white cabbage
15-20 green beans
1 cup liquid stock or your broth of choice
2 cups water
1 tin chopped tomatoes
2 tablespoons soy or tamari
500g firm organic tofu, diced
180g soba noodles or noodle of choice
2-4 organic free range eggs
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice (optional for extra tang)
White pepper (not the same as black pepper!)

Method

In a large heavy bottom pot, sauté onion, ginger and cabbage until softened.
Add beans, stock/broth, water, tomatoes, soy/tamari.
Cover with a lid and bring to a simmer.
Add tofu. Cover and bring back to a simmer.
Add noodles, cover with a lid simmer until noodles are cooked. Use a fork to make sure the noodles don’t stick together. The starch from the noodles with thicken the sauce so if you want it soupier add another cup of stock/broth.
Whisk eggs and pour on top of simmering noodles. Stir through as the egg cooks.
Taste and season before serving. This where the lime is optional to make it a little sour and tangy if you like.
Best served with WHITE pepper 😋
