We work hard on divvy days, why?

Coz our community and local farmers are reliant on us to get fresh produce from farms to our plates. Bypassing middle-supermarkets, saving our dough and making sure the produce are as fresh as us picking them up from markets ourselves.

We also strive to eat well for our health, which is all the more important.

Today we have capsicum and chicken schnitzel atop avocado and mayo on multigrain pane di casa accompanied by a homemade chocolate cake.

Box Divvy supplying us with so many less processed and healthier options is making it easier to choose health over convenience. It’s a journey and we are all at different points, no pressure, no judgement.

🆕 Paldo - Locally-made Kimchi

This was quietly launched a few weeks ago so you may have missed it: Paldo Kimchi. Paldo makes this authentic kimchi using a traditional Korean recipe supporting good gut health with probiotics. It is also made with cabbages grown by none other than our very own Charlie Vella and his sons.

🆕 A change to our yoghurt range

We’ve started working with Delicious Dairies to bring you the Eoss Foods yoghurt range.

After a small opening-week hiccup—apparently you really like yoghurt—they’ve increased their stock levels to keep up with demand.
We’re excited about the new range and hope to add more products over time. We hope you enjoy giving them a try!

Price Rollback and Seasonal Spotlight 🔦

🍅 Field Tomatoes $2.84/kg

Eclipse of the sun, and tomato prices - on repeat.

Do we believe in coincidence? Not really, no. This week, Europe was plunged into darkness by a complete solar eclipse. The last time that happened was on 11th August 1999 - the exact same day that Woolworths advertised premium tomatoes at $2.84 a kilo.

Twenty-seven years later to the day, Europe was again plunged into darkness - but Australia saw the light when Box Divvy repeated the same deal: tomatoes at $2.84 a kilo.

No coincidence.

Berry Bonanza
Caboolture is on fire! Well, not literally - thanks heavens - but the berry farms in South-East Queensland are a-buzzing with pickers and packers and trucks, coming and going to the markets. So long as the weather holds, this bonanza will keep going.

🍓 Strawberries 500g $3.84 or $24 for tray of 8

In addition to the regular punnet deal, the 500g Jumbo punnet is looking strong again this week: $3.87 a punnet or $24 for a whole tray of 8 (i.e. a massive 4kg of berries) - both around 20% cheaper than last week.

Will we ever get sick of strawberries?? Nah…but you might want to cleanse the palate with some super-cheap Cara Cara oranges. Strawberries for the fibre, Cara Cara for the vitamins.

🍊 Cara Cara $1.75/kg or $13.50/9kg box

It doesn't happen often that Cara Cara oranges are effectively sold at the same price as regular Navels, but this week they do. And if you're serious about preventing a vitamin C shortage, get yourself a whole 9kg box for $13.50…

🥔 Sebago potatoes $1.25/kg and Leeks $1.50 ea

Did you hear the news? Parliament House in Canberra has banned Potato & Leek Soup, after they discovered a Cabinet leek…haha. Well, they’re going to have to make something else with these incredible-value leeks ($1.50 ea) and Sebago potatoes ($1.25/kg).

Am thankful that divvy days mean I still get to spend quality time with little one even on her sick days from school.

“Aunty Marguerite this”, “aunty Marguerite that”, “Why do you do this aunty Marguerite?” So many questions for our aunty who’s pretty much watched her growing up from a bub.

Here they are taste testing and comparing our current ridiculously huge sweet strawberries against the freeze-dried strawberries, it’s a no brainer who’s the champion!

Have more strawberries my little one, it’ll boost your immunity and get you back to school in no time!

Are you enjoying our delicious strawberries at the moment too?

Price Rollback and Seasonal Spotlight 🔦

🥑 Hass avocado 89c ea

It's Rollback time: July 1999 marks the 3rd Harry Potter release (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban); Lance Armstrong wins his first Tour de France, and Woolworths advertises Hass avocados at 89c on 14th July 1999.

🍊 Blood Oranges $2.90/kg at 80c ea

The taste of winter: pine forests, wild mushrooms, wood-fired pizza, you get the drift. Some spice and cassis. Sounds like a fine wine review, but we're talking blood oranges - at half price. Lovely in a salad with baby spinach, beetroot, pine nuts and goat's cheese.

🍠 Sweet Potatoes $1.87/kg at 94c ea

The chats went down a treat last week, but 'what about sweet potatoes'?? A lot of members who can't or don't eat regular potatoes were asking, and this is our answer: $1.87 a kg. Cheap as chips. The other ones.

🥑🥑 Avocado Trays - $19 for 25

At 89c an avo, they’re cheap already. But…if you’re into mass-producing guacamole, or your aunty runs a cafe, or you’re using avocados as a butter/margarine substitute, you may be interested in acquiring a whole tray of around 25 avos for $19. That works out at 76c a piece. For that price, you can have your avo and eat it, too.

Maesri’s Masaman Curry is a delicious fusion of Malay and Indian influences, with a unique aroma from a mix of spices. Hailing from southern Thailand, its special preparation involves roasting spices upfront. The Masaman paste effortlessly blends Indian flavours with Thai ingredients, offering a fragrant, mildly spicy kick, complemented by the sweetness of lemongrass and the tang of galangal.

Often enjoyed with chicken, this versatile, nut-free Maesri curry paste pairs well with other meats like duck, goat, mutton, or lamb shank. A delightful slow-cooked, mild, and sweet curry that caters to everyone’s cravings.

We have been lucky enough to have a mild winter in which this cherry tomato plant managed to survive, flower and ultimately fruit in the beginning of August.

These taste as good as they look. However one plant is no where near enough for us when they are that yummy!

Thankfully, the baby truss tomatoes that we get delivered through Box Divvy is just as delicious. And we can get them pretty much all year round…happy days! 💃🏼

The convenience of fresh produce without popping to the markets OR supermarkets.

Mangoes!

It’s been super cold this week, so we were not exactly thinking ‘mangoes!’. But growers up in Darwin, NT had different ideas. In fact, mangoes have been available on the market for a few weeks, but the early fruit can be a little hard and green and tart.

But we bought a test tray on Monday, and by Thursday the packing staff had devoured them. The verdict? Thumbs up - but importantly: don’t judge their ripeness by colour alone. If they have a little ‘give’, eat them!

They’re $6 each, but over the coming few months they’ll more than halve in price.
