Despite three goes at starting today’s Pacific Rigging Wednesday Non-Spinnaker Pursuit, and some promising patches of north-westerly breeze, racing was abandoned shortly after 2pm and the fleet of 20 boats returned to the club. Thanks to Rob Ogilvie for assisting with race management today and to Shibumi and Jambo for the BBQ and raffle. Hopping we get some more wind for Race 4 next week.

The second round of the Sydney Harbour Winter Sprint Series was sailed on a sparkling sunny afternoon with a summer-like north-easterly building from 10 to 15 knots – ideal racing conditions. Race Officer Steve Tucker and the MHYC Race Management Team set courses for the three scheduled races between Sow & Pigs Reef and Cannae Point. In Division 1 on PHS handicap, Geoff Charters’ Adams 10 No Friends placed 1-1-2 to win the day from Contentious (Brian Lees) on 5 points and Wailea (Neil Padden) with 9 points. No Friends also took three wins on ORC. Christopher Mapp steered the Etchells 22 Ella to the top of the Division 2 PHS results with a 2-1-1 scoreline. The Melges 21 MHYC 3 (Angus Clarke) was second and the J/24 Birubi (Andrew Forbes) third.

We are looking for a couple of volunteers to assist with on-water Race Management this Saturday 13th June for the Sydney Harbour Sprint Series races. This is a great opportunity to view the race starts and finishes from a different perspective, seeing the boat strategies at the start and hone your skills on the start flags and procedure. You would be working with an experienced team on our start boat Legacy and need to be at the club at 10am. Lunch and drinks provided. Please email [email protected] if you can assist or have any questions.

Zen and Wailea were the winners in Race 2 of the Pacific Rigging Wednesday Non-Spinnaker Series 4 sailed today in 12-15 knots of north-easterly and plenty of sunshine. After the on-water start near Wyargine Point, Course 7 took the fleets to Shark Island and Manly before returning to the clubhouse finish line. Gordon Ketelbey’s Farr 40 Zen claimed the Division 1 honours ahead of Exile (Rob Reynolds) and Toy Box 2 (Ian Box). In Division 2, Neil Padden’s Beneteau 40.7 Wailea was first home followed by Equinox (Todd Trenear) and Lumine Lunae (Kim Darling). Best on ORC Elapsed Time were Toy Box 2 in Division 1 and Martela (Chris Sklinner) in Division 2. Thanks to Marc Tromp for the aerial photography!

The first race of the Pacific Rigging Wednesday Non-Spinnaker Pursuit Series 4 was sailed in a moderate north-westerly today, but the gusts were quite fresh. As the boats approached the clubhouse finish line there were some big gusts and massive windshifts, calling for quick decision making. Shaun Lane’s Lazy Dog was the first boat home to take the Division 1 win ahead of Exile (Rob Reynolds) and Austmark (Gunther Schmidt-Lindner). Fernando Calero & Steve Smith sailed Freedom to the front of the Division 2 fleet, leading Expresso (Phil Darling) and Equinox (Todd Trenear) to the line. Best on ORC were Austmark and Martela (Chris Skinner).

More than 120 sailors, volunteers, coaches, officials and supporters came together at Middle Harbour Yacht Club for the SheSails Pathways & Networking Event on Friday - Three panels. New connections. Big conversations, fresh ideas and plenty of inspiration.
From leadership and volunteering to high performance pathways and grassroots participation, the evening highlighted the many different ways people can find their place in sailing, and the importance of community, confidence and belonging along the way.
A huge thank you to MC Nic Douglass, all the panellists, attendees and everyone who helped make the evening such a success.
