I hope you’re excited to try some amazing rice porridge tomorrow.
We’ve got four amazing chefs cooking for us:
First up, Nina (aka Teddie): an award-winning cook and caterer who blends her Vietnamese heritage with sustainable, plant-based creativity - shaped through time at some of Sydney’s best restaurants including Yellow, Monopole and Bentley. She’ll be making her New Century congee, a silky Viet-inspired vegan bowl.
Cheyenne is a Filipino home cook, artist, producer, writer and photographer. From pop-up kitchens to food and film festivals, everything she does is rooted in a deep love for food, community and culture. Chey will making Champorado, a Filipino chocolate (!!) rice porridge with anchovy.
Adesti Prabowo is a cultural food practitioner and creative based in Sydney whose work sits at the intersection of community culinary arts and ancestral Indonesian history. She’ll be making a bubur ayam kuah kuning topped with an onsen egg or sate usus/ati/ampela for the real ones.
We also want to welcome a special auntie, Tante Mariany Hidajat (a.k.a. Wok Mum), who’ll be locking it down with a Chindo bubur ikan, a fish rice porridge with lots of ginger. Nongkrong has hosted wok.boi many times - we’re all very keen to taste from who taught him everything he knows ;)
To pair we’ll also have some artisanal Viet rice wines from SÔNG CÁI DISTILLERY and yuzushu sodas 平和酒造株式会社 from Mai and Ang from Oi Oi will also be serving up SEA goodness alongside their viet iced coffee, chae and matcha.
For a little sweet treat, Margey from Bottomfeeder is bringing hot takes like adobo cookies, bagoong caramels and a modern polvoron. Margey is a cook, food writer and fervent fermenter who cooks zero-waste recipes that use every last bit of every last bite.
This is the last nongkrong event for our tour season - hope to see you there !!
