you were never supposed to know how to do this.

somewhere along the way, feeding a baby got filed under instinct, as if it's a switch that flips the moment they hand you the baby, and if it doesn't flip cleanly you've somehow missed a step everyone else was given. we don't think that's true, and we don't think it's fair, so we wanted to say it plainly for once instead of around it.

most of what people call natural is actually just learned, usually badly, in the middle of the night, by someone who's exhausted and bleeding and hasn't slept properly in three days. the latch that eventually works isn't instinct, it's forty attempts and someone finally showing you how to tilt your arm. the routine that eventually holds isn't instinct either, it's trial and error dressed up afterwards as if it always made sense. nobody tells you that part at the time, because by the time it's worked, it looks effortless from the outside, and effortless is a lie that gets told constantly and believed by almost everyone it happens to.

we hear from a lot of you who felt like they were failing at something everyone else seemed to just know, and almost always it wasn't a failure of anything, it was just the part before it clicked, which every single person goes through and almost nobody talks about honestly.

so if it hasn't clicked yet, or it clicked and then stopped clicking, or it never quite clicked the way it was supposed to, that's not a sign you're missing something other people have. it's just where you are right now, and it's a completely normal place to be.

where we actually fit into this

we can't make it click faster and we're not going to pretend otherwise. what we can do is take one very small thing off the list, so there's slightly less to figure out from scratch on a day that already has enough of that. that's genuinely the whole pitch.

a note on language, since we mean it exactly as written: our cookies support milk production, they don't guarantee it and they can't make anything click on their own. anyone telling you a cookie fixes this outright is selling harder than we ever will.
