Arab Council Australia expresses shock and profound sorrow following the mass shooting at a Jewish community gathering celebrating Chanukah at Bondi yesterday.
We extend our deepest condolences and solidarity to the victims, their families and loved ones, to those who were injured and are fighting for their lives, and to all who witnessed this traumatic event. We also extend our condolences to the wider Australian community, as this tragedy has affected us all. We acknowledge the first responders, health workers and members of the public who acted with professionalism and care in the aftermath.
Any act of violence that targets people because of who they are, their faith, or how they gather in the community causes profound harm and fear, with impacts that extend beyond the immediate victims.
Arab Council Australia stands firmly for the values of respect, compassion and dignity. We believe in communities built on inclusion and shared responsibility, where every person deserves safety and the freedom to live without fear. We condemn hatred and reject violence in all forms.
During this deeply painful and challenging time, we urge responsibility in public conversation, including moving away from rumours and speculation, and supporting the ongoing police investigation. Respecting the experiences of those who were at the scene and allowing space for accurate information and recovery is essential.
Lives have been lost, and families and communities are grieving.

Our thoughts are with all those impacted by this tragedy, and we encourage people to check in on friends, family and community members who may have been affected, and to continue working together to uphold the principles that connect us.
