Some full circle moments are so perfect, you couldn’t have written them better. 🥹
I met in 2021, somewhere between a MasterChef audition table, a flight to Melbourne and two weeks of COVID hotel quarantine in Sydney. 🫠
We were part of this little group of food obsessed humans who had somehow made it from 30,000 applications into the Top 60 and that very surreal MasterChef world.
And back then, I had absolutely no idea food would become my career.
Which is funny, because food had always been my life.
I travelled for it. Wrote about it. Read about it. Dreamed about it. Fed people every chance I got.
I just never thought I was allowed to make a living from it.
While I was practising for MasterChef, my family eventually told me that if I made one more dessert I was going to make them all fat and I needed to find other people to feed. 😂
So, during those very strange 5km radius COVID days, I started giving my practice desserts to people in my ‘hood in exchange for feedback.
I made the fancy things.
The technical things.
The frou frou things I thought would prove I was MasterChef material.
And then, amongst all of that, I made my much requested Banoffee Pie.
That was the one.
The simple one.
The nostalgic one.
And somewhere in those early tastings, watching food I had made bring people to tears, something shifted in me.
I realised people don’t always want more complicated.
Sometimes they just want something made with so much care, love and intention that they can actually taste it.
The kind of food that feels like your mum made it.
Or your grandma.
Or someone who really, really wanted you to be happy.
That little realisation became Butter and Love.
And now, 5 years later, Arrnott, one of the people who was there at the very beginning of that chapter, came to try the pie that accidentally changed my entire life.
Arrnott, thank you for this beautiful video.
And for unknowingly being part of the story long before there was even a story to tell.
There’s something really special about being seen again by someone who knew you before you knew who you were becoming.
Full circle.
