Box Grove Vineyard Wines

Box Grove Vineyard Wines I make wines to enjoy with food. Elegant sparkling wines, crisp, flavoursome whites and stylish soft At the vineyard, we ‘tread as lightly as we can’.

Elegant sparkling wines, crisp, flavoursome whites and stylish soft finishing reds. I have made my speciality the Rhone varietals - shiraz, roussanne and viognier. These have found a second home in and around Tabilk, in central Victoria, having been grown here amongst the tall river red gums for well over 100 years. We make our own compost to improve soil structure and work with the vines’ natu

ral growth habits to create canopies for shade and air flow, to avoid the use of sprays and chemicals. I trust you will enjoy “my family”, and share them with friends over a good meal.

I’ve made some more friends in Italy! This is Camilla in the first photo. We met her at the Cagliari Market in Sardinia. In true Jack Russell style, she would not sit when her human asked her to! But the pup in the second photo was very obedient.

Ciao amici! I’ve arrived in Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia. It’s late spring and the bougainvillea and jacaranda are in bloom.

Here at the Cagliari Market, everything is made easy for you. The beans are pre-chopped and the veggies for minestrone are prepared and ready to brown in the pan.

I wish you could smell the fresh basil and tomatoes or ripe berries.

The oysters taste like catching a big wave in the surf! The chickens are corn-fed and bright yellow.

I’m beginning to think… Sardinia, there’s no place like you.

Ciao from beautiful Rome where I’m spending a few days exploring the sights before heading to the International Vermentino Concorso in Sardinia. Today I found myself at a restaurant that specialises in artichoke dishes in the old Jewish quarter, Giggetto. It is peak artichoke season — late Spring. See the guy with the job of cleaning out the thistle before the deep frying?! They gave me their secret recipe on how to cook it… now I just need to get it translated!

For those you of that don’t know, I’m on my way to Sardinia for the International Vermentino Concorso, where my very own 2024 Vermentino will be showcased alongside 14 other fine Australian examples hand-picked by the Halliday team to represent our land down under. I’ve also been invited to sit on the tasting panel, where I’ll get to judge some of the best Vermentino from around the world.

Right now though, I’m in Rome exploring the sights and history. This is Augusto, one of many Jack Russells that proudly call this beautiful city home. We also met a Brando. Big names for these little dogs, but they have the character to live up to them!

Our friends at Young Gun of Wine have named Box Grove a finalist in the 6th Annual Vineyard of the Year Awards!

A panel of judges, including wine writer Max Allen, have narrowed the field to the top 45 vineyards that best showcase the values of sustainability, innovation, provenance and quality. It’s not often that small producers are championed in this way and we couldn’t be more thrilled. We’re proudly rubbing shoulders with some of the country’s leading vineyards. The winner will be announced in June... watch this space!

We call him Spritz and his girlfriend (not shown) Aperol. Like everyone in Victoria today, these dear little king parrots are feeling the heat and have popped in for a drink of cool water. A gentle reminder to leave out plenty of containers of water for pets, birds and other wildlife when the temperature spikes.

The Halliday Companion tasting team have named our 2024 Prosecco one their ‘Standout Wines’ for 2026!

“A top prosecco is increasingly hard to find, but here’s one. Intense bubbly action introduces a non-stop effervescence complemented by racy acidity and a flavour that highlights the grape’s zesty citrus appeal. Solo or with food, it’s a winner.’ — Halliday 2026 Wine Companion.

We couldn’t really say it better ourselves. Drink it on its own or with a dash of Aperol and soda — either way it’s just so good!

Sample bold and beautiful wines from over 70 fabulous winemakers at the inaugural North X North East Victorian Wine Festival.

Held at the historic Old Melbourne, the event is a journey through the diversity of seven wine regions: our very own Nagambie Lakes, Glenrowan, King Valley, Beechworth, Rutherglen, Mansfield and The Alpine Valleys.

I’ll be there pouring some of my signature reds: Grenache, Negroamaro, Sezão, Shiraz, Roussanne and Primitivo, plus my very special 2015 Shiraz Vintage Port. Sounds like fun right?

There will also be plenty of food on offer with chef Scott Pickett serving delicious pairings, including his famous Truffle Cheese Toasties. Yum!
