This little Dahkle Outcome Heifer out of a Andras Mr Blackjeans daughter, Heartland Uptown Girl, would have to be in the top 2 of characters in our current calf crop. Always up to mischief, lucky she’s cute!

You pray when dry planting crops that forecasted weather events come to fruition.

The relief of actually seeing the rain fall from the sky and then the joy experienced a week or two later when your paddocks go from brown to the luminous green of freshly germinated crops. It’s certainly uplifting!

As they say…. It’s the little things in life that are often the best!

Its so nice to have a weekend at home now & then, especially with the cool weather and recent rain events!

Pete has been busy teaching Harry how to operate the bulldozer. Its nice to raise capable children and give them life skills!

Meanwhile Elsa the kelpie and I enjoyed a stroll around the back paddock, I haven't been out there since the storm in January which left it looking like a war zone.

We spotted Heartland Topaz (Sire: Red 6 Mile Full Throttle, Dam: Heartland Queen Ruby) looking a picture in the sunset. Topaz is bouncing back from the dry, hot Summer, shes safely back in calf and recently had her 2025 Spring Calf weaned.

In 2013 we moved our stud to ‘Mossvale’ in the Tamworth Region.

Fast forward to 2026 and we have finally put signage up on our Highway Frontage!

We have some more plans for landscaping but I am loving the sign!

Just another special milestone finally co ordinated to celebrate our 20th year in the Seedstock industry.

The rain finally arrived 🙌🌧️

Puddles, green grass and happy Red Angus cattle… the best kind of reset for the farm.

Elsa the kelpie was loving the muddy & moist conditions!

Nothing beats seeing the country come back to life 💚🐂

Looking forward to seeing our crops germinate 🌱

A special throwback to a heifer we showed back in 2009 ❤️

❤️Heartland Red Bella ❤️

Sired by Princess Park Red Baron NPJV520 — genetics we still believe in so strongly that we continue to use his semen today.

She perfectly represented the traits we value in Red Angus females & oozed breed character: softness, femininity, quiet temperament, natural thickness and true maternal quality.

Some genetics never go out of style.

Let the rejoining begin!

A lot of people ask how AI breeding in cattle actually works, so here’s a little insight into what we do here at Heartland.

We are very fortunate to have the skills & know how to do our own artificial breeding via Ai, which in turn gives us more flexibility when it comes to breeding our cows.

Most of the time we AI our cows on natural heat. It may not be the most “efficient” system on paper, but for us it’s a more natural approach that minimises the use of drugs to stimulate cycling and usually leads to a much higher success rate.

Semen is selected & purchased from elite bulls, in our case we usually only Ai with international genetics from Canada 🇨🇦 or the USA 🇺🇸 The semen is collected and is stored frozen in tiny straws inside liquid nitrogen tanks at extremely cold temperatures.

This can be shipped worldwide 🌍 and stored for decades as long as the straws are not compromised. When a cow comes on heat, we select the mating we want for that cow and thaw the semen so it can be used for insemination.

Heat checking is done twice daily. A cow on heat will often stand to be ridden by other cows — or sometimes she’s the one doing the riding 😂🤣 There are also other signs we look for as well. Once we identify a cow standing on heat, she will usually be AI’d the following morning or evening at the optimal time.

One of the really exciting parts is that every calf you see beside its mother is essentially a glimpse into future breeding decisions — almost like seeing the genetics “on display” before the next generation arrives. The calves become a visual guide when selecting future joinings, helping us match cows and bulls to continually improve structure, temperament, phenotype and performance.

When you see a calf at foot on one of our cows, it represents months, sometimes years of planning, thought, many decisions and hard work!
