Santa Gertrudis and Santa-cross cattle featured prominently throughout the 2026 Callide Dawson Beef Carcase Competition, with exhibitors achieving success across both grass-fed and grain-fed classes and collecting several major awards presented in Biloela tonight.
The results reinforce the reputation of Santa Gertrudis and Santa-influenced cattle for delivering outstanding carcase performance, feed efficiency and market compliance, qualities that continue to fuel their increasing demand across the Australian beef industry.
Leading the way was Dodson Ag, with a Santa-Angus x animal bred and prepared by Alex Dodson of Moura winning the Champion Grass-Fed Steer Carcase award on 150.78 points.
Dodson Ag also demonstrated strong consistency in Class 1 โ Single Grass-Fed Steer, with their animals placing both first and second.
The success of Santa genetics continued in the grass-fed section, with Dan and Kasey Phillips, Murgona, Taroom, taking out Champion Grass-Fed Heifer Carcase, while the Howard family, of Burleigh Estates, Biloela was awarded Reserve Champion Grass-Fed Steer Carcase and later recognised with the Most Suitable Carcase award.

Feedlot performance results further highlighted the commercial strength of Santa genetics.
In the Best Liveweight Gain in Feedlot โ Trade Steer Class, Spring Creek Santa Gertrudis posted second with animals recording an average daily gain of 2.67kg, while Gyranda came in third with 2.61kg ADG.
In the Trade Heifer section, Bellbird Pastoral Company placed third with an ADG of 2.52kg.
