๐ Letโs talk Bee Swarms ๐
A Swarm is a group of bees that leave the main colony and follow the queen, normally because their hive is overcrowded.
I have been lucky enough to nearly double the number of hives I have, just by catching Swarms from around our property and helping local friends and neighbours relocate swarms from paddocks, house yards, letterboxes and gateways.
As it warms up and the days get longer, Swarms become more common because the Hives run out of room for all the bees that have been hatching over the cooler winter months. Beekeepers manage their hives and colonies to try and reduce the frequency of Swarms. We split hives or increase the hive space by adding boxes called supers, but Swarms are still inevitable. โFeralโ hives which as those that are not living in a maintained box set up are everywhere and they will also swarm regularly at this time of year.
๐ If you are anyone you know sees a Swarm or needs one relocated in the South Burnett or Gympie areas please get in contact with me through this page, and I will come and remove it for you if possible. If you arenโt local, you can also go to https://www.beekeepers.asn.au/swarms for assistance ๐
