🥂NEW REVIEW🥂 - Eternal Optimist Barossa Shiraz 2023

The Baron of the Barossa, Peter Lehman, the story behind the new Eternal Optimist Shiraz. What is really behind the label and the medals is a classic Aussie success story. A man that used handshakes and his word to build something and help support a region expanding and growing.

Peter Lehman is a name known throughout the wine world, but with his deepest ties lying in the mighty Barossa Valley. Shiraz is the grape and does anywhere in the world do it better, i'm tipping if you asked Peter the answer would be no!

This particular wine has won several very coveted awards and I truly believe that winning at the Barossa Wine Show is a massive tick for this wine, winning in your home region would be the toughest. A wine that showcases the best of the Barossa without the overt brashness and big feels that can be associated with the region.

It's light on its feet with blue fruits and spice, lifted aromatics and is a cracking value drink. Yes this is a sponsored post, that's the truth, but it doesn't change my views or thoughts and I would happily spend my money on this wine, i'm not here to lie for the sake of it, keep it real and drink well. This wine does just that!

🥂NEW REVIEW🥂 .sydney - Eternal Optimist Barossa Shiraz 2023, a classic with a modern twist.

Vibrant fruit, rich yet fresh, with restrained well integrated oak and balance throughout.

Dark raspberry, mulberry, ripe black cherry and blood plum flavours meet hints of violets, liquorice and pepper, dusty cocoa, mocha, earth and smoke. Structured with fine tannins, smooth in texture and brimming with a bright acidity that makes this really juicy.

This is far from the big oaky jammy fruit bomb stereotype of Barossa Shiraz. After it surprised me with its high acidity that made my mouth water, I learned that 2023 was a cooler vintage and harvested late, resulting in more elegant wines with bold flavours balanced by naturally high acidity.

This first release of 'Eternal Optimist' has already won a number of awards including Double Gold at the 2025 Melbourne International Wine Competition and trophy for Best 2023 Shiraz at the 2024 Barossa Wine Show. Not surprised by this!

A fun way to drink this Shiraz? Share a bottle with friends or family over a barbecue: chargrilled meats, vegetables, spicy marinades and condiments would pair well with the fruity, savoury, spicy and smoky flavours, with that bright acidity cutting through richness and fat.

🥂NEW REVIEW🥂 - Eternal Optimist Barossa Shiraz 2023. POV: the “I don’t usually drink Shiraz” girl finds a Shiraz she actually wants another glass of 👀🍷

I tend to lean towards lighter, juicy, vibrant drops (give me Italian varieties and crunchy reds all day), so this wine genuinely surprised me.

Juicy dark fruit, smooth, easy to drink, and none of that super heavy, overpowering energy that can sometimes put me off bigger reds.

No wonder it took home Double Gold + Trophy just after launch 🏆

🍷 NEW REVIEW with 🍷

Eternal Optimist Barossa Shiraz 2023. The aromas are beautifully lifted and expressive, with ripe raspberry and blueberry jumping out first, followed by a soft floral note of violet. There's also a subtle layer of dark chocolate and a gentle hint of charry oak that adds depth without overpowering the fruit.

On the palate, this is rich yet balanced, showcasing juicy blue fruits and ripe plum alongside darker cherry notes. The tannins are smooth and well integrated, giving it a plush, rounded mouthfeel, while still finishing long and fresh with a slightly savoury edge that keeps you going back for another sip.

This would pair perfectly with anything char-grilled-think juicy steaks, lamb chops, or even pork with caramelised edges-but it's also incredibly approachable on its own for a relaxed glass.

You could easily bring this out for dinner parties, date nights or weekend catch-ups, and it also makes a great gift. You can find it available at Liquorland making it a pretty easy one to track down.
