This guy here. He's the reason why Badass Brownies exist. Levi was a very chillaxed child, apart from projectile vomiting once a day caused by 'silent reflux'. Fortunately he wasn't the same as his sister, who wasn't so silent and vomited 20 times a day!
When Levi was two years old he tested positive with the coeliac gene. Coeliac disease is an auto immune disease, people who have Coeliac disease get very unwell when they eat gluten. At this stage Levi carried the gene, which put him at risk of developing the disease — and he'd often complain of a sore tummy, so we removed gluten from his diet to be safe. This was back in 2006 and there wasn't a lot of tasty gluten free products around. A friend baked him some gluten-free brownies once and it was the best thing we had tasted in so long!!! Levi was often accompanied by this deliciousness for playdates, parties and just because. They were devoured by those with and without dietary requirements, and were always a safe treat for those who couldn't tolerate gluten or nuts.
In fact they were so popular that it was written into an employment contract that I had - to supply brownies a minimum of once a season for the team's morning tea!
In 2020 I had to pivot with having lost my income due to the pandemic and I started baking brownies in different flavours and selling them at the local farmers market. Then I was asked to make Blondies (some people are intolerant to cocoa), so I created a GF Blondie! THEN people with egg and dairy allergies/intolerances wanted to be catered for, so I did that too! Then we started making baking mixes in 3 base flavours, which can make a host of other goodness and you can recreate our other flavours using these mixes as well.
Now we're in cafes, restaurants, a couple of supermarkets, and even a boutique hotel chain gift them!
Nothing delights me more than people literally saying "Oh thank goodness, my kids have something delicious that everyone can enjoy and they won't feel sick".
When I look back on the struggle of having babies with digestive issues and not knowing what was wrong them, I am just super happy to be able to help other families.
