This last 2 weeks has been challenging.
We had a cow (in calf) die. Not sure if it was calving issues (no feet showing) or if it was snake bite. 😒
Then we had a calf die during birth. Think it may have got stuck as mum couldn’t stand when I got over there to check her in the morning. She would stand up but then have limited control over her back end. She has improved but will have to be sold as her back looks damaged. 😒
Then lastly we had an issue with one calving, had to get the vet out for that one, calf was backwards. It was alive when it was pulled but was dead when we went back to check it.😒

On a brighter note we do have 13 calves on the ground.
Hope 2026 is a better year 😁

Well the little one from the previous posts is still alive, but now has a limp. Sure hope she makes it.

This is the first time that I’ve thought this little one will make it. Mum looks like she is producing more milk as we have milk froth on the little one when drinking and there is not as much head butting the udder. Also the flank area is not as hollow. Hopefully going over twice a day for the last 4 days has paid off. 😁

Last year a whole mob of 2nd year cows did not get in calf. It was a bad year feed wise and they most likely not cycling. So we put the bull in out of season, which means we are calving now.
This cow was the second in the mob to calf. When we went to check on them there was a bit of confusion between the two calves. We think this guy got mixed up a bit about mum and think he missed feeding. When we would go over to check for new calves the cow would run back to her calf and protect him. She had a full udder so it didn’t look like he was drinking. Then we found him drinking the muddy water near the trough. Not looking good for this little calf. We tried two days to give him a supplemental bottle but he wasnt interested, even emptied the milk into a container to see if he would drink from that. We didn’t have much luck. Bottle feeding a calf is very expensive.
I continued to monitor and would go over twice a day and get them together and watch him drink. Now it looks like she has started to dry up. Not sure if this little guy will survive. Hopefully he will start sneaking a feed off another cow. He did end up getting to that other large teat
The not so joyful part of farming.

Danish farmer Kent Davidsen has become the fifth farmer to come forward, revealing sick and dying cows after using the feed additive Bovaer.

He’s now urging other farmers to stop using it immediately, and even his veterinarian agrees.

More voices are rising. How many more animals must suffer before someone listens? 🇩🇰💔
