He also discussed F1 Wagyu breeding and finishing programs, genetic selection and the role of innovation in driving productivity and efficiency.

Meet our 2026 Angus Australia & Tasmanian Angus Breeders Group Industry Innovator, Tony Fitzgerald!
Tony is the Managing Director of Whyalla Beef Feedlot, located near Texas on the Queensland-New South Wales border. Whyalla Beef Feedlot is part of NH Foods Australia and Tony’s role involves overseeing the supply of 157,000 head annually into NH Foods’ premium beef brands. Driven by practical application of data and evidence-based management, Tony is known for championing data, technology and practical innovation to lift productivity and operational efficiency across the feedlot, breeding and farming operations of the Whyalla and Beactive feedlots.
Tony’s will share an overview of what makes Whyalla Beef one of the most advanced feedlots in the southern hemisphere. He will discuss the current export markets, key profit drivers and the businesses priorities for growth, as well as the role data collection and technology play in supporting informed decision-making and management of the business at a strategic and operational level.
Tony’s presentation will highlight the benefits and challenges of running F1 Wagyu breeding and finishing programs on King Island and in the NSW Riverina and how Whyalla Beef’s breeding objectives are achieved through genetic selection and refined breeding programs.
