RESULTS HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED for the 1st Australia International Wine Challenge 2019 !!
A total of over 350 wines from 8 different countries were entered and judged by a panel of leading wine professionals from Australia and internationally.

8 Trophy medals were awarded including Best of Show, 9 Best Value medals, 1 Platinum medal, 17 Gold medals, 52 Silver medals and 130 Bronze medals.

* The Australia International Wine Challenge used a 20 point scale to allocate Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.

Wines that receive 19.0, 19.5 or 20.0 receive a Platinum Medal
Wines that receive 18.5 are awarded a Gold Medal
Wines that receive 17.0, 17.5 or 18.0 are awarded a Silver Medal
Wines that receive 15.5,16.0 or 16.5 are awarded a Bronze Medal
Trophy winning wines are chosen after re-tasting the Platinum Gold Medal and Gold Medal wines.

We are excited to announce that tasting by judges for the 1st Australia International Wine Challenge starts TOMORROW, Monday 12th at the National Wine Centre of Australia, Adelaide!! We have been busy sorting and arranging the 350 entries received, so watch this space for updates, images and results!

Left over wines from Australia International Wine Challenge will be used to raise funds for our partner charity Wine into Water (an NPO which over the years has built approximately 150 wells in Cambodia bringing everyday drinking water to about 5,000 people who do not have access to it) and Sala Bai Hotel School (an Australia-based charity which gives training to disadvantaged young adults in Cambodia so that they can find positions in Cambodia’s burgeoning hotel/tourist industry).

Our Chairman John Salvi MW (the longest-serving Master of Wine) and Co-chairs will be joined by a glittering assembly of top wine professionals from Australia and the world’s leading wine markets. Each panel will comprise two international and two Australian judges, and will be led by an internationally-recognised wine figure.
Introducing our Panel Leaders!

Eduardo Dingler - Panel Leader
As Corporate Beverage Director of the Morimoto Restaurant Group Eduardo has developed multiple programs around the globe. He is the host of 'Sake Drinker and Friends Show' a monthly show dedicated to Sake and the culture that it represents.

Nick Bulleid MW - Panel Leader
Nick is an independent consultant, providing winemaking assistance with wine quality assessment, valuation, blending and advice on the industry and wine market matters. He has judged at most Australian wine shows and has chaired a committee of the Australian Society for Viticulture and Oenology.

Veronique Raisin - Panel Leader
A regular contributor to Bettane&Desseauve, La R***e du Vin de France, Le Magazine Vigneron and several other specialised print-media and on-line publications, as well as author of the Picrocol blog, she spends the year visiting all the French wine-growing areas.

Anthony Rose - Panel Leader
Anthony Rose is a British wine journalist known for his column in The Independent. He also contributes to publications such as Decanter, The World of Fine Wine, R***e du Vin de France, China and Shanghai Daily.

Nick Ryan - Panel Leader
Nick s a wine columnist for The Australia newspaper, a regular contributor Gourmet Traveller Wine and GQ and writes a weekly column musing on life for Adelaide’s Sunday Mail. He has judged in many Australian and international wine shows and is a graduate of the prestigious Len Evans Tutorial.

Jon Osbeiston - Panel Leader
The best expert in French and Italian wines in Australia, not to mention his encyclopaedic knowledge of the Australian wine scene, had sold his Ultimo Wine Centre store to Vintage Cellars, part of the Coles/Westfarmers empire in April 2013. He stayed behind the counter for anther 18 months up until late last year when he joined forces with reputable Melbourne wine experts, the well named Prince Wine Store.

Damien d'Ovidio - Panel Leader
For many years Damien has been
proactively involved in exporting wines to Japan and has a unique knowledge of the Japan wine trade.
