Today, during one of our Highland Farm Experiences, Wallace decided the safest place was on a guestās lap. š„¹
What many people donāt realise is that calves have their own social hierarchy, just like the adult herd. Even at a young age, they naturally establish a pecking order through play, confidence and personality.
Wallace sits lower in that calf hierarchy. As prey animals, cattle are always aware of their surroundings, but the lower-ranking calves are often especially vigilant. Theyāre not only watching for potential predators, theyāre also keeping an eye on the other calves, who may come over and nudge them away from food, favourite resting spots, or even your attention.
Today when Wallace chose to settle his head on Leahās lap, it was a sign that he felt safe and protected in that space so it was truly special to watch his little body completely relax and drift off.
