Billabaroo cattle Breeding commercial speckle park cross cattle.

Pulled out 10 weaners from the herd.
Tagged and ready to go to Gloucester sales this Thursday.
6 heifers, 4 steers all Angus x SP
All lovely quiet animals. It was a challenge to choose who to sell and who to keep πŸ€”
Here's hoping the rollercoaster that is cattle prices stays on a high.

Yep, I got wet again. 🀣So nice to be getting a bit of decent rain again! 😁

How a farmer Mum spends mother's day...🀣

Glorious, mild, sunny day.... could use a drop of the wet stuff though. The paddocks may look green with the flush of growth from the last shower...but there's not much in it for them.
Nevertheless, we are grateful for every day we can put off having to feed out silage!
This winter is promising to be tough.
Plans are in place to destock by about 40% over the next month. We just had to wait til all the calves were weaned.

Woohoo!
Starting to see signs of the winter grasses coming up. 😁
Jury is out as to whether there'll be enough soil moisture to sustain it but we'll take any win for now.
Subsoil moisture is still very low. Grass is surviving from one shower to the next.
πŸ™ For the next shower to not be too far away.
We've only put out about a third of what we'd planned in winter seed (cost vs risk), but every bit eases the pressure.

While Borris has almost caught up to George on height, George is still the winner by far on head (and neck) size. 🀭

Preg testing day. All ready to go.
Cows still with calves at foot, and hopefully first calf heifers in the yards. Rest of the youngsters in the paddock and the rest of the breeders waiting in the lane for their turn.

Results 28 out of 30 pregnant.
Well done George and Borris.
Two heifers trying for their second calf were the ones not pregnant.
Better result than we were expecting considering the season we've had.
Thanks Simon from Do-A-Bull, love your work πŸ™‚

Doesn't help us much with deciding which animals should go though....
Some tough decisions to make.
We need to downsize to match our feed availability over winter. πŸ˜•

Paddocks we had planned to cut silage off.
Unfortunately we just didn't get enough rain for the grass to grow enough bulk to cut.
The youngsters aren't complaining though! πŸ˜‰
