Beef was established with one clear goal in mind - to rear premium quality grass fed, free-range beef using compassionate and respectful animal husbandry practices in a traditional farming environment whilst being conscious of and sensitive towards the environment. A family owned and run company located in the rolling hills of West Gippsland the Bacchus Beef cattle roam freely on the beautiful and carefully tended pastured paddocks on the Green family farm in Tonimbuk, Victoria. We relocated prime Hereford breeding stock from Bacchus Downs near Mackay, Queensland to Tonimbuk in 2008 and have been breeding these Hereford cows for nearly 100 years. More recently, we have begun to introduce Angus cows into the herd. Hereford cows are renowned for their tender beef, natural levels of marbling and the development of deep rich flavors developed through a grass fed diet. All cattle are born and raised on the property so animal history is known. We practice traditional farming methods, breeding slow growing cattle allowing them to mature at their own pace. Calves are reared on their mother’s milk until they naturally weaned themselves. The stock is reared on fresh grass and are not fed grain at any point in their life. They are 100% grass fed beef. Our cattle enjoy a low stress life in a beautiful natural environment. Ethical consideration is foremost in our minds – not only is this kind to the animals but it influences the quality of the meat. As a family owned and run business we have personal connection and involvement in the development of each animal. This not only safe guards traceability of each beast sent for processing but also guarantees a consistent supply of premium grade Hereford grass fed beef. Our farm is GM free and we are passionate about keeping use of all chemicals to a minimum – The animal’s health and welfare will not be compromised by withholding antibiotics but are used as a last resort. Low food miles to the point of processing ensures less stress on each animal resulting in superior tasting beef that is tender, high in nutritional value, full of flavor and has texture.
