Heathcote II Heathcote II is hands on grapegrowing and winemaking producing handcrafted premium red wines capturing the unique flavours of the Heathcote terroir.

Heathcote II is the product of two individuals, Peder Rosdal and Lionel Flutto and is all about producing premium red wines of the highest quality. Heathcote II is hands on grape growing and winemaking. With only seasonal staff at harvest, Peder and Lionel run the whole process from hand- pruning the vines to pressing the wine. They purchased the property in January 2004 and the 2022 vintage was t

heir 19th. The wines are made purely from grapes grown by us on our property in Toolleen, 28 kms North of Heathcote. The yield is naturally very low, rarely exceeding 1.5 tons to the acre, which gives about 22 - 25 hl/hectare. The altitude of the property lies from 220 to 250 meters above sea level and it spans over 80 acres of undulating red Cambrian soil. However only 14 acres are planted into vines. Most of that being Shiraz, with smaller plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Tempranillo, Grenache, Carignan and Sangiovese. The oldest vines have an average age of 28 years. Peder is the French trained winemaker and responsible for making the wine. He uses traditional yet modern winemaking techniques taken from his experiences in Europe and the US. The fermentation goes on for 10 to 14 days in small open vats. In order to maximize deep colour and flavour extraction, the fermenting juice is hand-plunged twice a day. This very effective technique was initially developed in Burgundy many years ago and is still considered the most gentle way to extract the essence of the grapes. All the wines are dry and they are aged in the finest French oak barriques for eighteen to twenty four months. Lionel is more involved in the viticulture side where the focus is on achieving balanced vines able to cope with summer stress. With no irrigation, each vine is individually hand pruned to an optimum cropping level where stress is managed for flavour balance and concentration. The dry conditions prevailing most of the year reduce the disease pressure dramatically making it easy to manage the vineyard with minimal chemical sprays.

In 2020 Peder Rosdal and Lionel Flutto of Heathcote II winery have teamed up with local record producer and DJ, Gene Shill of Amalfi Records, to create a unique new soundtrack based on the tasting notes of their 2017 Shiraz.

Introducing the latest in music and innovation, Shill has created a sonic palette from the tasting notes, and has curated a six track album which perfectly captures the elegance and intensity of the wine.

This new collaboration encourages consumers to experience wine and music in a completely new immersive way. So, for the first time in Australia you’ll now be able to discover how to easily pair your
favourite boutique wine with its very own simple and sophisticated sound.

The album opens with an exciting, intense and soft sound as the wine hits your palate for the first time, and gradually switches to a relaxed tempo as it begins to breathe and you begin to fully unwind. Harmonious jazz saxophone and rhythmic guitar, along with European electro inspired sounds make up the ultimate experience for both the listener and the taster.

Mixed and mastered In New York by the legendary Pete Keppler, who has worked with some of the best known musicians in the world including David Bowie, David Byrne, Katy Perry and Bonnie Raitt, you are absolutely guaranteed a quality listening experience.

With this new extreme weeder we are taking care of our vineyards at Heathcote II.
It will allow us to stop or reduce using herbicide under the vines and the soil will be better for it.

We are very excited to be able to re-open the Cellar Door and the Villas this coming weekend. We are fully booked in the Villas.

We will re-open with sit down tastings only, at maximum 17 people in the cellar door. The weather forecast looks pretty good, so we will also have outdoor sitting in the sheltered courtyard.
We will be opened 10 to 6 on Saturday and Sunday, 10 to 4 on Monday and will have lunch on 11:30 to 3 during the 3 days.

We are serving our very popular wholesome home made winter dishes with Peder's classic Boeuf Bourguignon and the Tuscan Lamb stew with black olives and upsizing to full size mains. We will be baking bread and also have a charcuterie and cheese platter for the smaller appetites.

We recommend people to book for lunch or call ahead.

We will also be releasing three new wines; our Sangiovese Cabernet 2018, our single Grenache 2018 and our Grenache - Shiraz blend 2018 (GS).

Plus we have our other wines on tasting as well.
