Spearheaded by Corrina Wright of Oliver’s Taranga in McLaren Vale, the day celebrates this Southern Italian variety that’s making waves in Australian w**e. After a big day moving boxes in the warehouse, Kat and Stace had well and truly earned a cold one! This week, they’re cracking open Haiver Spirits Hard Iced Tea.

UNDER THE RADAR
liquidrocknroll White Noise 2024

A Riesling and Gewürztraminer field blend from Mt Bellevue in the King Valley. Think pink grapefruit, lime and lemon zest from the Riesling, with rose petal, lychee and a gentle spice from the Gewürztraminer. Fresh, aromatic and a little bit different, with just enough residual sugar to soften the acidity.

Why it deserves more attention: it sits outside the usual Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay lineup but it’s still really approachable and easy to drink.

Where we’d pour it: live music venues, w**e bars and casual dining spots, especially alongside spicy Asian food, shellfish or soft cheese.

El*Arquero Tequila Old Fashioned 🥃

Stirred, not rushed. The classic, made with Reposado and a hit of bitters.

You’ll need:
~ 60ml El*Arquero Reposado
~ 10ml simple syrup
~ 4 dashes chocolate bitters
~ Orange peel
~ Ice
~ Large tumbler

Method
Pour the Reposado, simple syrup and bitters into your glass.
Fill with ice and stir for a full minute.
Top with a little more ice, then twist the orange peel over the glass and drop it in.

Region Focus: Heathcote

Next up in our ‘Region Focus’ series is Heathcote. Located in Central Victoria, Heathcote is best known for its warm, dry climate, ancient red Cambrian soils and powerful, expressive Shiraz.

The region’s deep red soils are rich in iron and naturally well drained, helping produce concentrated fruit with structure, depth and plenty of character. While Shiraz is the hero variety here, Heathcote also delivers some seriously interesting alternative reds.

Fun fact: Heathcote’s famous Cambrian soils are hundreds of millions of years old, making them some of the oldest vineyard soils in Australia.

Redcote Heathcote Shiraz
A powerful yet refined Shiraz with blackberry, ripe plum, liquorice, spice and earthy notes. Full bodied with dark berry fruit, mulberry and bitter chocolate, balanced by silky tannins and bright acidity.

W**e By Sam ‘The Victorian’ Shiraz
Rich and full bodied with blackberry, sweet spice and chocolate notes. Ripe, plush tannins give it plenty of generosity and structure while keeping it smooth and approachable.

A savoury, aromatic Heathcote Nebbiolo with red cherry, rose, dried herbs and earthy notes. Medium bodied with bright acidity and firm, finely woven tannins.
