Tempe placed third after a last minute switch from fourth. She’s probably lucky to even make it out of the ring after a swing and hit on poor Jacqui Palk….

But. She is a Palk so she just powered on. Black eyes are free apparently

Bathurst… or bust.

(We might just bust). Early morning departure under a clear sky and bright moon. But only after a tow ball change and ramp adjustment.

A snapped ratchet strap on the freeway during peak hour added another delay as we had to find the spare straps then fix it.

We may or may not have missed an exit or two as well.

Throwback to 16 May 2021, when a pregnant Andie sat in the wrong spot and her fat ass rolled over. I just happened to glance out the window and saw something NQR. With no tractor and no neighbours I was able to reach, it was pure adrenaline that enabled me to flip her over.

Did this contribute to my wrecked knees? Possible. It took me 3 hours to get my breathing back under control.

Lucky for Andie. She was no worse for wear and is hopefully pregnant with baby #4 (confirmation pending)

The cold and wet weather cleared for a beautiful morning of pats and painting. Tempe clearly had to do a thorough inspection of the final product but she approved.

While no dates are set for the next few weeks due to the upcoming National Show prep (show is June 5-7 in Bathurst), if you would like to take part in a paint and pat session, just reach out via the website, or social media!

Thanks for a fun session ladies !!

Our Ollie girl. We have had her since 2003 when she was hit by a car as a baby and broke her wing. Something the vet didn’t pick up on at the time and we don’t notice until many years later. She can’t fly, and she hates being touched… but if she chooses you, you’re lucky. Or not - as she is a super stalker!

Phillip was so pleased the day she finally climbed on his shoulder. He made sure we took photos!

📣 AHCS members - voting closes this Friday. If you haven’t voted yet, now’s the time. Council voting is your opportunity to have a real say in the direction of our Society and the future of the Highland breed in Australia.

This isn’t just a formality - who sits on Council shapes how our Society operates, how members are represented, and how we protect the integrity, welfare, and heritage of Highland cattle.

I have accepted a nomination for Council, nominated by Tim Wright (Stone Ridge Highlands, former AHCS President) and seconded by Jane Komacha (Hunter Highlands, current NSW State Representative and former Councillor).

Over the past five years, I’ve been actively involved across breeding, promotion, and member education through Koolah Creek Highlands. I currently serve as NSW State Representative and have been closely involved in rebuilding the NSW Highland Breeders Group, now serving as President. I’ve also contributed to field days, educational initiatives, and the planning of the 2026 AHCS National Show.

A key part of my focus has been working directly with members - supporting practical areas such as cattle husbandry, handling, breeding decisions, and understanding DNA testing, with a strong emphasis on animal welfare and best practice. I see this as a responsibility: contributing to informed, ethical, and transparent practices across our membership.

If you value practical experience, transparency, and a strong focus on representing members - along with a commitment to animal welfare, education, and preserving heritage - I would genuinely appreciate your support.

Take the time to read each candidate statement carefully. Look beyond the surface - consider the experience, the contribution, and the intent behind each nomination.

Choose candidates who align with your values, who will represent members, and who you trust to act in the best interests of the breed.

We all want a strong, transparent, and member-focused Society - one that represents its members, not individual agendas.

🗓️ Voting closes Friday 24 April at 7pm.

Set aside a few minutes today and make your vote count.
