Peak pomelo season and the big wet season seems to be endless. Considered one of the original ancestral citrus species, and native to Southeast Asia the current conditions seem to suit them perfectly.🌦

We grow mostly K 15 variety. With sweet, juicy yellow flesh this variety is hard to stop eating after the first taste. The late great DPI researcher Brian Watson apparently imported the original parent seed from the best tasting pommelos he could find in Thailand in the 1970s.

The seeds were planted in a trial block at Kamerunga research station in Cairns and the best fruits grew on tree number 15 in row K.

Pomelos picked at best maturity are probably the best tasting citrus bar none, and are rich in vitamin C, fibre and antioxidants. They're a fruit highly regarded by some cultures and are considered a symbol of prosperity, family unity and good fortune! πŸ’› πŸ€

🚜 🌿 Happy World Agritourism Day from Fruit Forest Farm! 🌿🚜

Growing premium tropical and exotic fruit is our core business, but agritourism has given us the opportunity to share our farm life and cornucopia of exotic fruits with visitors from across Australia and around the world. 🌏

As a small but mighty family-run farm, we do our best to β€œfit it all in” β€” from harvesting fruit to hosting farm tours for groups big and small. Along the way, we’ve met incredible people and welcomed celebrity chefs and media through the gates.

A special highlight recently has been regular tours with high school students visiting FNQ from Melbourne as part of their curriculum. Seeing young people genuinely interested in farming, tropical fruit, and where their food comes from is something we’re really proud of.

Their feedback reminds us how important it is to keep sharing knowledge and real farming experiences with the next generation. 🌱

Thank you to everyone who has visited, supported, shared our story, and helped make agritourism such a rewarding part of what we do.

Here’s to farming, learning, connecting, and celebrating the beauty of regional Australia! β˜€οΈπŸšœπŸŒ΄

We've had a German wildlife documentary crew filming our resident cassowaries on the farm. They captured lots of amazing footage, including two females in a tustle over territory. The crew's experience was as wild as the animals they encountered and rainforest jungle they ventured through - reaching tree top heights when their drone ended up in the fork of a tree, and Waz had to shoot it down in the rain, without damaging it. They accomplished the mission and leave knowing there's never a dull day in the Wet Tropics!
