Happy world bee day!!!

Most Australians are unaware of the current Varroa mite situation which has been in Australia since June 2022. We have been mite free since they were first detected in New South Wales.

Varroa mite (Varroa destructor and Varroa jacobsoni) is a parasite of adult honey bees and honey bee brood. It weakens and kills honey bee colonies and can also transmit honey bee viruses.

South Australia is still Varroa mite free but with almond pollination in the near months it’s so so important that the local Government hear our calls from South Australian bee keepers to shut the borders from interstate hives so we have more time to prepare and help understand this problem.
