Thrilled to bits to have some Fruit of the Endangered Boonjee Laurel (Cryptocarya cercophylla).

A small understory Laurel from Australia’s wettest rainforest on the SE Atherton Tablelands. Text states “a species on the verge of extinction”. It is known only from one small region of elevated tropical rainforest.

It’s leaf tips are especially tapered. A feature to encourage the capillary forces of water to shed excess moisture from the leaf surface reducing the time spent wet and thus minimising the growth of epiphys. Small plant like bodies such as algae and moulds that would otherwise compromise it’s photosynthetic ability in this low light environment.

We will sow these seeds to help protect the Boonjee Laurel and showcase its unique evolutionary feature of being competitive and persistent in a dark dingy habitat.

Perfume Tree; Ylang-Ylang; Cananga

☑️ This is one of my favourite native plants (among many 😆). It reminds me of my tree planting days working on Conservation projects in FNQ, where this species is common in regen. The flowers are unique, delicate & smell so good 😊.

It grows in lowland rain forest, in Cape York/North East Queensland and is widespread in the area. Also occurs in Malesia and SE Asia.

Cape Tamarind (Diploglottis macrantha) - one of many specimens we grow of this smallest native tamarind. It only grows about 5m tall, has beautiful new growth, edible arils around the seed and is hardy down to probably coastal Sydney. It heralds from eastern Cape York wet forests.

We have some available from time to time and you are most welcome to make a booking to come see our extensive arboretum containing thousands of species, mostly Australian rainforest plants.

Bunya harvest 2026 - is off to a red hot start thanks to our new Kubota making life easier.

Now to let these break open in a rain-free dry spot, dehusk then freeze for later eating by us or our customers.

Our bunya plantation was planted in 1988 and now is literally bearing “fruits” of love 🙂
