First visit back to Vacy since selling Breckin Park 3 years ago, and has left me with a very heavy heart. All the hard work, money and time we spent to improve the property has been ruined.
Fencing installed to keep cattle out of waterways and dams, to protect trees that had been planted as environmental corridors for wildlife including koalas, and trees planted to create wind breaks,and shade for cattle all removed. It really is an act of environmental vandalism.
Rotational grazing has been practiced for years as a way of protecting pastures but not by the current custodians.
Caring for the land should come first for all farmers, not just a quick profit. The land is currently in drought again after suffering years of flooding, it's a tough gig but managing pastures to protect that thin layer of dirt that all grass and crops grow in is essential. The right grazing methods and controlling where cattle go is essential if we want our future generations to have arable land.
