🍃 Find Wonder Along the Scarp 🍃

Waroona's trails are full of surprises for those willing to slow down and look a little closer.

While the towering jarrah forests, sweeping valley views and bubbling creek lines are spectacular, some of the region's most fascinating treasures can be found right beneath your feet. Hidden amongst the forest floor are tiny carnivorous sundews, remarkable native plants that use glistening sticky droplets to capture insects and thrive in our nutrient-poor soils.

From the smallest plants to the grandest landscapes, every trail offers an opportunity to connect with nature and discover something unexpected.

🌧️ Makuru has arrived in Waroona 🌿

In the Noongar seasons, Makuru is known as the season of rain and cold winds — a time when wetlands fill, waterways flow and the landscape transforms with the arrival of winter.

Across the Shire of Waroona, Makuru brings misty mornings, flowing creeks, green landscapes and an abundance of birdlife throughout our forests, lakes and wetlands. 🦢

It’s a beautiful time to slow down, explore nature and experience the quieter side of the region — from the wetlands of Yalgorup National Park to the towering forests along the scarp.

We acknowledge and respect the Traditional Custodians of the lands and waters of the Shire of Waroona and recognise the deep knowledge and connection Noongar people have shared with Country for tens of thousands of years.

🌿 A Chilly Morning Lift on the Farm 🌿

Some of Waroona’s smallest locals know exactly how to stay warm on a crisp winter morning! This cheeky W***y Wagtail has found the perfect perch, hitching a ride atop a curious cow while soaking up the first rays of sunshine.

Known to the Noongar people as Djiti Djiti (pronounced jit-ee jit-ee), the W***y Wagtail is one of Western Australia's most recognisable birds. Agile, inquisitive and full of personality, you'll often spot them flitting through paddocks, parks, campgrounds and walking trails throughout the Waroona region.

As the mornings grow cooler, keep an eye out for our feathered friends while exploring the countryside. Whether you're wandering through farmland, enjoying a walk at Drakesbrook Weir, or discovering the trails from sea to scarp, nature always has a story to tell.
