08/06/2026

There are limited places left to access low-cost Q fever testing and vaccination appointments in Gippsland.

Calving is also key time in the season when people can contract Q fever. This is due to the high exposure of the bacteria that can spread from infected animals (primarily cows, goats, sheep) to humans through direct and indirect contact, such as birthing fluids, dust or contaminated animal products, animal urine or faeces or milk.

Upcoming clinic dates and locations:
โ€ข Warragul Central Clinic โ€“ Monday 15 and 22 June
โ€ข Traralgon, Breed St Medical Centre โ€“ Tuesday 16 and 23 June
โ€ข Maffra Medical Centre โ€“ Friday 19 and 26 June
โ€ข Foster Medical Centre โ€“ Tuesday 21 and 28 July

Two appointments, one week apart, are required for testing and vaccination. Q fever testing and vaccination is the most effective way to prevent Q fever in the workplace and reduce the risk of exposure to farmers and farm workers. You only need to be vaccinated for Q fever once for long term protection.

Find your closest medical centre in Gippsland and book your appointment: https://www.dairyaustralia.com.au/news-repository/2026/01/15/preventing-q-fever-on-farm -now

Itโ€™s been a big few weeks on the road - kicking off with two jam packed days of Milking and Mastitis Management in the MID, followed by First Aid training for the Young Dairy Network.

Weโ€™ve also been diving into Fuel and Fertiliser Disruption workshops, talking all things Healthy Hooves in Yarram, and connecting with industry at both the Irrigation Expo in Sale and the Middle of Everywhere Careers Expo.

We wrapped things up with a valuable Dairy Audit day for the West Gippsland Yarra Valley Discussion Group.

Great to see so many people showing up, getting involved, and investing in the future of dairyโ€”plenty of learning, collaboration, and good conversations along the way.

The upcoming Kingโ€™s Birthday public holiday is a good reminder to review your rosters and ensure your payroll arrangements align with the Pastoral Award 2020.

โ€ข Full-time and part-time employees are entitled to a paid day off if the public holiday falls on a day they would normally work. If they do work, applicable penalty rates apply.
โ€ข Casual employees are only paid if they work on the public holiday, typically at a rate of 225%.

Taking the time to prepare now can help create a fair, informed and well-supported workplace.
