What an incredible three days at the Australian Merino Production Trial Shearing Evaluation!
At Lachlan Merinos, we strongly support independent, industry-relevant benchmarking. Trials like this provide real, practical insights linking genetics, performance, and profitability straight back to the paddock.
A big thank you to everyone who contributed to making the event a success, especially Craig and Karen Wilson. Your ongoing dedication over many years continues to make a real difference for commercial Merino producers. Also a big mention to the Fletchers international team at Kiagathur Station Condobilin on the management of the stock!
We’re very proud of how Lachlan genetics performed against 74 teams and 40 bloodlines.
A special congratulations to Des and Irene Ryan, long-time supporters of the Lachlan program.
Their outstanding results included:
• Highest clean fleece weight team – 6.1kg
• Highest greasy fleece weight team – 9.8kg
• $15.16 above the average fleece value (5-year fleece value average).
Even more impressively, the team achieved a $308 carcass value in the carcass component of the trial last year. This highlights the strength of a Merino enterprise in generating multiple income streams.
A fantastic achievement and a great example of what strong genetics can deliver when all sheep have been managed in the same environment.
