A true story for your Friday….

Hello everyone, my name is Splotchy. About four years ago I was just a lamb wandering about by myself out on the road, no flock or mob or family or friends, trying to figure out who I really was and what my purpose in life was supposed to be. After losing my flock, I figured I wasn’t really made out to be a sheep. The kangaroos wouldn’t have me either and the foxes were just being creeps, hanging around.

But just as I was about to give up on ever finding a group to fit in with, a mob of cows walked past. I asked a few of them where they were going and it sounded alright, so I decided to walk with them. Some of the cows took some convincing (some even kicked me) but eventually they all got used to me being part of the mob. I’d found my true purpose, I was supposed to be a cow!

Now I am gainfully employed as the mascot for the Merced Farming calves. Each year I head into the yards with everyone and I join the new calf herd (they’re a bit smaller and don’t step on me as much!). I hang out and show them the ropes, how to get through the yards and move paddocks. It’s not much but it makes me happy.

Anyway, I guess it goes to show that as long as you don’t give up and try your best, you can achieve whatever you want in life. Not many sheep can claim to be the head of a cow herd!!

Bit of rain about this week meant we had time to get off the farm! We spent the morning at in Wee Waa learning more about the Crop Cap products and how using targeted beneficial insects (parasitoid wasps) can give the Integrated Pest Management approach we use on farm an extra boost!

Put more simply, using good bugs to combat bad bugs (and use even less chemicals as a result!)

Shout out to for giving us a tour! We’re excited to see the impact of these small but mighty wasps 🐝 in both our corn 🌽 and cotton ☁️ crops this summer!!
