We had such a great time catching up with Dr Susan Orgill at the Farmers Helping Farmers Conference last week. We loved hearing her speak and are thrilled she's making the trip to Western Victoria for our Field Day this October! 🌱

Susan is an applied soil scientist with over 20 years' experience, currently Chief Scientist at Impact Ag Australia. She works closely with farming businesses to understand soils as living, dynamic systems, helping enhance soil function and natural capital in ways that support profitable farm businesses. She's also the recipient of the 2024 LJH Teakle Medal from Soil Science Australia and Landcare Australia's 2025 General Jeffery Soil Health Award.

At this year's Field Day, Susan will cover soil health and practical mangement strategies to build soil health on Day One, then lead a hands-on soil pit session in the paddock on Day Two — a chance to get into the ground and see firsthand what healthy soil structure and biological activity actually look like.

We had a wonderful time at the Farmers helping Farmers Conference in Yarrawonga last week — and loved catching up with Michael Gooden (their current president) while we were there! 🐂

Michael is a fourth-generation farmer from the Riverina region of NSW, where he and his family run Old Man Creek, a grass-fed beef enterprise built on Angus seedstock, cattle trading and paddock-to-plate production.

Drawing on holistic management principles and 20 years of mixed farming experience, Michael has become passionate about building farming systems that improve profitability while restoring soil function, landscape health and community connection. He's also President of Farmers Helping Farmers and sits on the board of the Holistic Management Co-op

At this year's Field Day, Michael will be talking about grazing with natural capital in mind — sharing real insights from Old Man Creek on the wins, the challenges, and the ongoing learning that comes with running a complex, connected farming system.

How does soil health actually translate into real farm value? 🌱

Santos Amadeo from CarbonLink brings over a decade of experience managing landscapes across cropping, grazing and forestry — and a master's degree in agroecology focused on solving exactly this kind of challenge.

At this year's Field Day, Santos will walk us through the Chatsworth House soil carbon project as a real-world case study — from baseline sampling and project design through to first crediting period results — showing how improving soil health can create measurable value, both environmentally and financially.

Some faces are just made for the Chatsworth House Field Day, and Kirsten Diprose is one of them! 🎤

Back in 2023, Kirsten was our MC for our very first Field Day — and we're so excited to have her back again this October.

Kirsten lives on a sheep and cropping property near us, and has spent much of her career as a TV and radio journalist for the ABC. These days she runs Rural Podcasting Co. , and hosts two podcasts of her own — Ducks on the Pond (for rural women) and Town Criers Podcast , a comedy podcast about small towns.

She brings warmth, wit and a genuine love of rural communities to everything she does — the perfect person to guide us through two big days of learning, connection and conversation.

7–8 October, we can't wait to welcome her (and you!) back to Chatsworth House. 🙌
