Lab day.

It’s a bit pedantic, but samples are taken from every barrel, every tank, every vessel just to ensure that across the board they all taste the same. Wine is a science, but sometimes not an exact science, especially if you consider my wild ferment Chardonnay. Sometimes there IS just slight barrel differences, sometimes you can barely tell, and after a day of tasting you drive yourself crazy! But, it has to be done to keep the quality control in check, and make sure that everything is going smoothly

I love this time of year. The sunsets are gorgeous, and we’re getting the odd nice night. It’s a quieter time, bottling some of the reds from last year, The Rose is sugar dry! So now I just look after them, make sure nothing goes wrong and wait until they’re ready to bottle

Hello from Lombok, Indonesia!

Vintage has slowed right down, enough to give myself a bit of a break and back for bottling in a couple of weeks. In a new photo in the series of “where do I work today” a current view, plus a few goodies of the family enjoying some much needed rest and fun at Lombok Wildlife Conservation Park. Much slower here than the bustle of Bali!

I already miss wine, not that they don’t have it here, but the tax is a killer and a standard $5-10 bottle of wine is over fifty bucks! Bintangs have done me just fine though.

Hope you’re all well and staying warm. Will have some bottling shots for you in the next two weeks!

Another example of very different parts of my day! Harvest in the morning, and then hosting a private tasting in the arvo. Grape skins everywhere first, and then polished and professional in the arvo haha. Actually, if you’ve ever visited me in McLaren Vale you’ll know my tastings are anything but fancy. I like to take the wankiness out of wine, and focus on how it’s made, and whether you enjoy it or not. Hope you guys are well!

Looking great! Vintage started off super strong. We had some heatwaves during ripening, and MASSIVE rains, but that’s agriculture 🤷‍♀️

Crazy to think this has been the busiest week when this time last year we were getting to the end!
