Great news this week, I still have my thumb🤗it is healing really well. Go back in 4 weeks to get the pins out. I actually cut through the bone, tendons and nerves. The nerves are actually starting to re join. The pins are holding the bone together. Did find out thou that I have severe arthritis in my thumb. Still not aloud to do to much and rest it, which I am so over it, still another 6 weeks to go🤔hope I can cope🤕I think what is the annoying thing is I wasn't even using the secateurs, I had finished cutting some foliage which was sitting on the ground I bent down to scoop it up still holding the secateurs in the right hand and then I accidentally hit the trigger. It could of ended up a lot worse. The thing I don't get is all my other tools including my hand held chainsaw has a 2 switch safety where you have to hold one switch in and then start it working with another switch. The stihl secateurs don't have any safety just hold a button on to turn on and off. After a lot of research no secateurs have much safety. Not even sure if a mesh glove would stop them and I am certainly not going to try it. My word of advice is if you have these secateurs please be careful, put them down if you are going to pick up your cuttings, better still don't use them, they are so dangerous even if you have used them lots I had done 75,000 cuts with mine and I still wasn't careful enough. There has been a huge rise in accidents with these battery secateurs and most of them leading to amputation. On a better note hope you all have a happy and safe Easter break🐰🥰

What beautiful weather we are having🌞 but very disappointed I can't do anything on the farm🚜. Thank you to all that have been in contact, messages, phone calls and came to visit❤️ I will have my thumb checked tomorrow to see how it is healing; fingers crossed I get to keep it. After a week of being inside feeling sorry for myself I ventured outside today in the sun and sat quietly watching these bumble bees 🐝 having the time of their lives, burying themselves into this banksia flower gathering pollen.

What a great start to my week🫣Was up early Monday morning😎 to go cutting⚘️ when my battery secateurs and my thumb👍 meet and my thumb didn't like the secateurs😥 I came off worse and cut the end off my thumb, can't blame the secateurs as I was the one that wasn't careful enough🫩 Can't believe I could do something so stupid🤕 After I passed out in the car and we then meet the ambulance down the road, they then took me straight through to the plastic surgeons at the LGH where they then have wired and pinned the bone as I cut straight through it, removed my nail and stuck my thumb back together, there was a little bit of hope as I had left a tiny bit still attached. They have patched it back together as good as they could. I reacted badly to the strong antibiotics and finally late last night after we got that sorted I made it back home. I am now waiting for the first week to see if it is going to heal otherwise I could loose the end of it, I am going to be laid up for at least 6 weeks. I am not a great patient but Warwick has stepped in and will be looking after the farm with cutting and deliveries etc. I am sure I will be here somewhere telling him what to do. He was out early today picking and processing orders and then off to do deliveries. Also think he is going to buy me a television for the bedroom so I can watch all the gardening shows I have been missing out on. Life of a farmer a🤠

What's been going on at the farm🚜 Well we have been really quiet on here🤫 as the protea blooms had a little holiday and we did too🥂 We have also been busy behind the scenes getting down and dirty🤦 and doing lots of new plantings🌿 watering💦 weeding, pruning and now picking🙃 The proteas are back🌷 Still lots more to bloom🌻but at least we have some🤗 We haven't been doing any markets 🐔lately or retail bunches as we just didn't have enough blooms🫣 but we have been supplying our local florists and doing up special bunches💐 for your special someone, get in touch if you would like a bunch🥰 we have a lot of new plantings beginning to flower but we can't harvest😵 from these until next year🥳 the farm is starting to green up🌦 with lots of new fresh growth🐝 which means more blooms🥀

While summer has arrived at Lakeview and the watering of the farm has started the flowers are taking a little break. January and February here at the farm is when the proteas take a little rest ready for the next blooming stage. We are busy keeping the water up over the next few months to keep the buds forming for the flowers to bloom in about early to mid March. Also at this time we are busy pruning, weeding, and getting beds ready for new plantings in the cooler months. You may see a little few of our flowers popping up over the next month as we do still have a few late flowering proteas but the main blooms have finished for the season. We would like to take this time to thank everyone that has supported Lakeview Flower Farm throughout the year and look forward to what 2026 has planned for us🤔

We did deliveries Monday and Wednesday and then prep for the Devonport Farmers Market which was on Saturday, where we sold out and then came back to the farm and made up 51 bunches and delivered Sunday morning.
