Behind the scenes, our chickens have had a big upgrade! 🐔

After a few years moving them up and down the hill in a chicken tractor with electric netting, watching closely, learning their likes, dislikes, needs and wants, we finally sat down and designed a permanent coop and run system, built just for them.

It started as a plan, mapped out right on the block before a single post went in. From there it was a lot of hands-on days, getting the frame up, hand building the walls, and getting all the little details right.

We're really proud of how it's turned out! Stay tuned as we share more on the details we added to our coop 🐓 🏠

The borage is abuzz with bees this morning 🐝

Flowers are the backbone of any productive garden, without their blooms the bees and other pollinators have nowhere to go and the whole system slows down.

Borage is a heavy lifter in the flower world though as it also acts as a dynamic accumulator, drawing nutrients up into its leaves which in return feeds the soil when folded back in. Its flowers are also edible and medicinal due to their rich antioxidants, their flavour is cucumber like and are delightful added to a winter salad.

I love being inspired by cook books and you know you have found a good one when you are straight away into the kitchen! With back to school starting I couldn’t resist trying out these sweet potato, cranberry oat bars.

They came together quickly are tasty and packed full of goodness without the extra sugar and chocolate often loaded in store brought muesli bars.

Most importantly they got the kid tick of approval ✔️👧🏻🧒🏼

If you’re in the market for a new cook book with simple, healthy recipes I would highly recommended ‘everyday food as medicine’ from Dr Kerryn Phelps and Jaime Rose Chambers.

We are looking forward to having water available in more of the paddocks we recently fenced off 😊
